In 2018, the family of a 4-year-old girl sought treatment for her in a Texas dental clinic. The child needed a root canal and a crown placed. The patient was restrained using a papoose board and the dentist began removing the caries lesion. The child underwent a seizure during the treatment and suffered irreversible, severe brain damage as a result; her condition requires round-the-clock medical care.
