Can a Nasal Spray Prevent COVID-19?

Columbia University researchers have developed a nasal spray designed to prevent infection with the novel coronavirus, and an initial study conducted on ferrets demonstrates efficacy. While the study was small and has not undergone peer review yet, results showed that the lipopeptide-containing nasal spray was effective in blocking the novel coronavirus’ ability to replicate in ferrets, which catch viruses through the nose as do humans.
