NIH Awards Grant to Study Adjunctive Antibiotic Therapy in Periodontal Treatment

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded $2 million to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) to study the role of responsible antibiotic use in the treatment of periodontal diseases. Researchers at the UTHSCSA will collaborate with the American Dental Association Science & Research Institute to conduct a clinical trial on the effectiveness and safety of adjunctive antibiotic therapy in periodontal disease treatment. The study will be conducted via the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network and will include more than 1,000 patients who will be followed for approximately 1 year. Click here to read more.
