Three-Dimensional Model May Help Efforts to Create Tooth Enamel

Dental stem cells are not easy to grow in a lab setting—unlike blood-forming stem cells that are prolific in labs across the world—leaving the knowledge base surrounding the dentition lacking. Researchers from KU Leuven in Belgium hope to change this with a new three-dimensional (3D) model using stem cells culled from the dental follicle. As dental enamel cannot regenerate, synthetic materials are used to restore teeth. Through this 3D research model, the scientists hope to create a biological filling material that would naturally repair teeth. Click here to read more.
