A new study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association found that four mouthrinses, with each one containing a different active ingredient—saline, hydrogen peroxide, chlorhexidine, and povidone-iodine—were all effective at reducing the level of SARS-CoV-2 in the saliva. While none of the ingredients impacted how effective the mouthrinse was at reducing SARS-CoV-2, the subject’s initial viral load significantly affected the efficacy of the rinse at reducing SARS-CoV-2 in saliva.
