Results from Phase 3 clinical trials on Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) one-dose COVID-19 vaccine demonstrated 72% effectiveness against moderate to severe COVID-19-related illness in the United States. However, this rate dropped to 57% in trials conducted in South Africa, which suggests the vaccine is less able to fight off the new variant that is highly present in the region.
