Dental Researchers Make Discovery Regarding Periodontal Diseases and Alzheimer Disease

Researchers at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine have discovered a link between Fusobacterium nucleatum , a periodontal pathogen, and the progression of Alzheimer disease. They found that the pro-inflammatory F. nucleatum exacerbates the signs of the neurodegenerative disease. After publishing the research in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience , the study authors hope to prove that by targeting F. nucleatum the progression of Alzheimer disease can be slowed.

This review of the evidence on possible association between locally delivered nicotine replacement therapy(NRT) and oral side effects included 28 RCTs. Most of the RCTs were at high risk of bias mainly because of allocation concealment concerns. Reported oral side effects including oral soreness, gastric reflux or vomiting, and mouth or throat irritation.
