Researchers at the University of Washington—through funding from the United States National Science Foundation’s Partnership for Innovation—have invented a handheld device that measures demineralization of teeth before incipient decay is present. The device, called the O-pH prototype, is able to ascertain levels of acidity and plaque biofilm via the use of LED light.
