Abstract Aim: The goal was to use a Deep Convolutional Neural Network to measure the radiographic alveolar bone level to aid periodontal diagnosis. Material and methods: A Deep Learning (DL) model was developed by integrating three segmentation networks (bone area, tooth, cementoenamel junction) and image analysis to measure the radiographic bone level and assign radiographic bone loss (RBL) stages.

South African Data Show Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine Is Not as Effective Against Omicron

New research out of South Africa, one of the first countries to report the new SARS-CoV-2 variant—Omicron—shows that the Pfizer vaccine is not as successful at preventing hospitalization among those with COVID-19. The study found that while the Pfizer vaccine reduced hospitalizations by 93% among those with the Delta variant, it only reduced hospitalizations by 70% in those infected with Omicron.
