New Preventive for Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw Is in Development

Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry have developed a topical medication designed to prevent or minimize the effects of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ), an uncommon but serious side effect among those taking bisphosphonates to slow bone loss. The new medication showed efficacy in reducing BRONJ-caused jawbone lesions and gingival inflammation among mice.
