Los Angeles Area Dental Office Suffers Burglary of Hard-Copy Data

In 2023, the stealing of data conjures up the disappearance of digital records into the darkest parts of the web. However, hard-copy data remain highly valuable as one California dental office unfortunately discovered. At 3 in the morning, a thief broke into a Sherman Oaks dental practice and stole hundreds of patient record folders that were stored on a shelf in the front office. Medical record information is coveted by criminals as it provides an avenue to obtain fake prescriptions in addition to providing personal data, such as social security number and address.
