Denture Wearing Negatively Impacts Nutrition

A study that cross-referenced participants’ dental records with nutritional assessment revealed that those fitted for dentures experienced a notable decline in nutritional markers over the 2 years following the start of appliance wearing, while those with complete dentitions did not see such declines. The authors—from the Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University School of Dentistry—noted that denture wearing put patients at risk for malnutrition, suggesting that oral health professionals ensure this population receives dietary counseling. The study included more than 10,000 participants and was published in the Journal of Prosthodontics. Click here to read more.
