Dental Insurer Funds Initiatives to Address Workplace Shortages in the Northeast

Northeast Delta Dental is funding initiatives to address workforce shortages in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The dental community is facing a shortage of dental providers as well as rising patient costs. Northeast Delta Dental has initiated a $6 million fund for dental student loan repayments to attract more dentists to the area; a $665,000 grant to the University of Maine at Augusta to double the number of dental units in the school’s dental clinic and implement a $100,000 student scholarship program for those enrolling in the dental assisting or expanded function dental assisting programs; and a $150,000 mentorship program for students at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, which connects dental students with dentists across northern New England to receive hands-on experience and strategies for managing a small business.
