In 2023, Benevis has cared for over 600,000 patients during one of 1.4 million visits to establish routine dental care, treatment plans, and dental homes. Eighty-seven percent (87%) of their patients were children, and 82% were Medicaid or CHIP beneficiaries. As Benevis continues to deliver on its mission, it has expanded its network of like-minded, community-focused dentists and operations leaders who want to make a difference in the oral health of Americans across the U.S.

This year, the organization hired over 150 dentists, including 22 new graduates and 95 hygienists, to bolster care team operations and extend services to more members of their communities. The executive team also onboarded chief financial officer, Kate Stets, chief of field operations, Christopher Toscano, and director of dental hygiene, Dominique Szach, RDH. On trend with the growing number of female dentists and millennials choosing careers with dental service organizations (DSOs), Benevis expanded its representation of millennial dentists (36% female and 26% male) and female dentists (53% female vs. 47% male).

“We’ve seen a significant increase in a younger generation of dentists interested in joining dental healthcare delivery organizations like Benevis. These newly graduated dentists appreciate our organization’s support and our tenured dentists’ mentorship as they begin to build their dental careers,” explained Bryan Carey, CEO of Benevis. “We’re proud of our multi-generational dental teams’ coming together to help patients in disadvantaged communities stave off poor oral health and create trusted dental homes.”

Benevis has also prioritized patients with more flexible scheduling options and expanded locations. In 2023, the company extended dental practice hours to include weekday evenings and Saturday appointments. This initiative has helped expand access to care by allowing Benevis to serve up to 25% more patients daily. To better support its orthodontia service line growth, Benevis opened six new orthodontic offices for a total of 77 locations nationwide.

An ortho calculator was also introduced to give patients, families, and caregivers a visual tool to better understand potential payment and financing options. It delivers cost transparency, clearly articulates customized payment plan timelines, and is featured across all 20 Benevis-affiliated dental brand websites.

“This year and looking ahead, we knew it was more important than ever to offer flexibility and meet our patients where they are. For our communities, convenience and ease of access are essential when patients are deciding where to receive dental treatment. By offering expanded office hours that work well for busy families’ schedules, we’ve removed barriers to their access and reduced no show and cancellation rates at our dental practices. It’s a win-win for our patients and practices,” shared Will Alexander, chief of enterprise operations, IT, Benevis.

Benevis also integrated new clinical and infrastructure equipment to stay at the forefront of dental technology and improve precision and efficiency of patient-centered care and outcomes. Each practice received digital intraoral sensors for streamlined digital X-ray imaging, intraoral scanners for advanced 3D imaging technologies, and MiPACS high availability architecture for innovative image archiving and communication system that acquires, stores, and views digital dental images. In addition to modernizing each Benevis office, the digital technologies allow for more environmentally friendly options that reduce waste for imaging and other non-reusable physical equipment.

Finally, Benevis is proud to reflect on its eighth annual Sharing Smiles Day, where 320 company volunteers from 26 practices in 11 states provided free dental care to more than 400 uninsured, underserved children and adults. Since 2016, more than 3,000 patients have received free dental exams and cleanings, emergency care, extractions, and restorative care through the kindness of Benevis volunteers.
