I found my way to biological hygiene because what I was doing clinically, and having my patients “do” at home was not working. Their gums were still bleeding, they still had periodontal disease and they were still getting new cavities. I knew I needed to dig deeper to find out why what I was told would work was not working.

I spoke with some educators and they commented that they are teaching because their bodies are “broken” from years of dental hygiene practice. That’s the best way to take care of your body and ensure a long career. Good posture and proper form are critical. Loups and a head light make a big difference.

Sleep apnea makes the blood-brain barriers more permeable , allowing pathogens, and namely oral periodontal (gum disease), pathogens to travel across what should be an impermeable barrier. In my biological dental hygiene practice, I use a phase contrast microscope to look at and monitor the pathogens.
