Nitrous Oxide: Your Answer To Dental Anxiety Marietta, GA

Nitrous Oxide: Your Answer To Dental Anxiety

Patient Sleeping During Dental Treatment in Marietta GA

Do you feel anxious, fearful or nervous about going to the dentist? Does this feeling cause you to avoid seeing the dentist altogether? If so, you are certainly not alone. According to Colgate, as many as 9% to 15% of Americans avoid seeing the dentist because of anxiety and fear. While an extra blanket or soothing music may be the fix for some anxious patients, it is not uncommon to need something more. At Gilreath Family Dentistry, we proudly offer sedation dentistry as part of our commitment to provide a positive and rewarding dental visit for each patient.

Dental anxiety (or dental fear) is a very real condition. It can occur at various levels. For instance, you may simply get sweaty palms or a racing heart in the waiting room or you may be paralyzed with fear at the mere thought of sitting in a dental chair. Regardless of how severe your anxiety is, sedation dentistry is a welcome solution.

The most preferred and popular form of sedation dentistry is nitrous oxide sedation. This involves wearing a small nosepiece or mask and gently inhaling its gas. Nitrous oxide is a colorless, sweet smelling gas that is safe for both kids and adults. Here are some key benefits of choosing nitrous oxide sedation:

You’re relaxed but still awake.  Nitrous oxide has the ability to put patients in a deep state of relaxation and calmness.  However, you are not put to sleep. You’ll still be able to communicate with your dentist, but you may not remember what you said or what actually happened once the procedure is over.

You can drive yourself home.  An overwhelming advantage to nitrous oxide as opposed to other forms of sedation dentistry (such as oral sedation or IV sedation), is that the effects wear off within minutes of removing the mask. There are no lingering side effects to deal with all day long, and you won’t have to burden a neighbor or family member to drive you home.

Your oral health is not neglected. Last but certainly not least, sedation dentistry allows you to get the care your smile needs to stay healthy. Remember that neglecting your oral health or putting off necessary treatments can significantly impact your overall health and your quality of life. Despite your fears or concerns about seeing a dentist, you can still get the care you need.

If the sights, sounds or smells of the dental office send you over the edge, don’t be afraid to tell us. While we do our best to create an environment that feels like home, we understand that dental anxiety still exists. We are happy to tell you how nitrous oxide sedation can benefit you during your next visit, and our team will go above and beyond to create soothing surroundings for a positive dental care experience. Dr. Daniel Lee is the best dentist I've seen. She's so considerate of your fear of the dentist and was so painless although multiple procedures were done at the same time to save me a visit. Will definitely be coming here for years to come Il!

Susan

Dr. Gilreath is incredible with my kids. They love going to the dentist now! And this busy mom loves the warm neck wraps, the soft music and enjoying a latte while I relax!

Was lucky enough to find these guys when I got insurance that my old dentist did not take. Very professional and friendly staff! Office has the latest greatest technology as well. If you're looking for a new dentist, search no further!

Susie L.

Very personable and friendly, they took the time to go over my complex dental history and did not pressure me into anything. They gave their recommendations and priced out any options I had. Great group!

Dr. Gilreath and his staff are top notch. I received the best cleaning I've ever had while watching my favorite show. The Doctor and his staff were all very polite, friendly, and courteous. They explained everything to me clearly and presented me with options in a gentle way that didn't make me feel pressured at all. It's obvious they really care about the wellbeing of their patients. The facility and equipment is really nice as well. I will definitely be back!

Always willing to work around my kids and my schedules. Today I had a long appointment. They started on time and always made sure I was comfortable and that the pain was managed so the procedure could’ve been completed without issues. Very courteous and professional staff.

Awesome dental practice! The staff is friendly and efficient. Dr. Gilreath is thorough and versed in the latest technology and procedures. I love that he can make crowns in the office while you wait (so no walking around with a temporary crown for days or weeks). I would strongly recommend this dental practice!

I've been going here for about a little over a year now. I've had a few cleanings, a filling, and started Invisiline so far. Hands down, the best run dental office I've ever been to. In the past at other dental offices I often had to wait 30 or more minutes beyond my appointment time before being seen. At Dr. Gilreath's office I've been seen on time every time. They seem to have systems in place to make every part of your visit run smoothly. From how they took x-rays, to billing and appointments, to the work done by the hygienist/dentist, everything seems to run like a well oiled machine. On top of that all the staff are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The office space itself is also quite nice. Very clean, well maintained, and seems very "up to date" with their equipment. If you're looking for a dentist and are anywhere in the northwest metro area I would highly recommend Dr. Gilreath.
