The American Dental Association Health Policy Institute’s survey results from the week of April 12, 2021, show that 58.1% of private dental practices are open with similar patient volumes seen prior to the global pandemic. Forty-one percent said they were open but with lower than typical patient volumes. For comparison, during the week of April 20, 2020, 79.4% of dental practices were closed, seeing emergency patients only, and 18.9% were closed to all patients. When asked how confident dentists were in the recovery of their dental practice this year, 45.9% were very confident, 39.1% were somewhat confident, and 8.2% were neither confident nor skeptical.
