OSHA to Issue COVID-19-Related Standards to Protect Workers

The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is set to implement an emergency temporary standard (ETS) to protect workers in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the content of the ETS is currently unknown, some experts believe it will provide enforceable regulations regarding the need for respiratory protection for medical and dental professionals, standards for ventilation systems, recommendations for mask wearing among employees who remain unvaccinated, and protections for whistleblowers. OSHA sent a rough draft of the ETS to the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs on April 26, but it remains unclear when the final ETS will be released.
