High-Flow Oxygen Is More Effective Than Low-Flow Among Patients With COVID-19

Patients with severe COVID-19 illness were less likely to require mechanical ventilation when they received high-flow oxygen therapy compared to those who received low-flow oxygen, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The use of mechanical ventilation to treat arterial hypoxemia in patients with COVID-19 has led to increased morbidity and mortality, so finding an alternative is key. The study included 220 adults with severe COVID-19 illness: 109 received high-flow oxygen therapy while 111 received low-flow oxygen.
