Museum of Dentistry Seeks to Boost Interest in Dental Careers Among Indigenous Youth in the US

Today, there are approximately 300 Native American dentists in the United States. The Sindecuse Museum of Dentistry on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor would like to see more indigenous people pursue careers in the dental profession. As such, the museum has partnered with the first Native American female dentist (and only the second Native American dentist ever in the US) Jessica Rickert, DDS, to create a coloring activity featuring Rickert that will be available free of charge to interested schools and tribes. The hope is that such activities may generate more interest in a profession with little Native American representation. An alumna of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Rickert is dedicated to encouraging indigenous youth to try STEM careers, including dentistry. Click here to read more.
