Dental restorations are designed to restore your smile to optimum health and function — but can it be done in one day? At Mountain Aire Dentistry, we offer CEREC same day crowns. With this treatment, you can receive your customized, natural-looking restoration in just one visit to our office.

What are Dental Crowns?

Think of a dental crown as a cap for a damaged tooth. This cap is placed over the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and to improve its appearance. Once the cap is on the tooth, it fully encases the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.

Candidates for Same Day Crowns

Crowns are a versatile restoration service that can be used to treat not just dental health issues, but cosmetic flaws too. A dental crown may be best for you if you have:

Darkened or stained teeth

Teeth can become stained naturally as we age. However, they can also stain prematurely by what we eat and drink, what our oral health hygiene is like, and developing certain illnesses or taking certain medications. If you have a tooth that becomes severely stained or darkened, a dental crown is a good option to give you the look and feel of a healthy tooth.

To attach an anchor to a dental bridge

A dental bridge is used to close a gap within your smile due to missing teeth. A dental bridge is typically held in place by dental crowns that have been cemented onto the teeth located on each side of the gap. This is used when patients have natural teeth remaining on both sides of the gap created by the missing tooth.

Restore a significant damaged or decayed tooth

A dental crown is a good restoration option if you have a tooth that was damaged due to an injury. Additionally, it’s also a good treatment option if you have a severe cavity that went untreated. Cavities, also known as tooth decay, is the result of not cleaning your teeth properly each day, allowing bacteria in your mouth to combine with the sugars you consume — causing a cavity. If left untreated long enough, a cavity can completely compromise the integrity of the tooth and result in the tooth falling out or needing to be pulled out. Further, crowns can support a large cavity filling if little natural tooth structure remains.

Cover and complete a dental implant

A dental implant is a good restorative option as well, however, a crown is often used to complete the treatment. Once your dental implant treatment is almost complete, your dentist will place a dental crown on your tooth.

Improve the appearance and functionality of an irregularly shaped tooth

If you have a misshapen tooth, it can affect the way you talk and eat. A crown can be placed to fill out the shape to look like a normal, healthy tooth. This will allow you to have normal function of your smile, resulting in better dental health and improving the appearance of your smile at the same time.

Strengthen a fractured or weakened tooth

Broken, chipped, or cracked teeth can become weak and frail. If this happens to you, a cap can strengthen the tooth and make it less susceptible to further breakage.

The Process

The first step in getting a dental crown is making an appointment to have a consultation with Dr. Chris Bockrath. Dr. Bockrath will examine your mouth and verify that this treatment is what is best for you and your dental health.

Once a dental crown is in your treatment plan, Dr. Bockrath will begin crafting a CEREC same-day dental crown right here in our Broomfield, Colorado office. You can be in-and-out of our office with a new smile in just one visit. Dr. Bockrath will first take digital pictures of your tooth that needs a crown. Once this is done, a model will be created using CAD technology and create a digital model of your tooth.

The machine will then take the model and create a 3-D tooth out of ceramic in as little as 15 minutes. Once complete, Dr. Bockrath will polish the new crown and fit it in place inside your mouth.
