J&J’s COVID-19 Vaccine Raises Risk of Guillain–Barré Syndrome

While the risk remains very low, an investigation into federal vaccine data found that individuals who had received the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) one-shot COVID-19 vaccination had a three times to five times higher risk of developing Guillain–Barré syndrome than those who had not received the immunization. As a result, the United States Food and Drug Administration is expected to issue a warning regarding this risk shortly.  A rare disorder affecting the immune system, Guillain–Barré syndrome attacks the nerves, leading to weakened muscles and possibly paralysis.
