CDC Asserts Oral Health Professionals Should Have First-Tier Access to COVID-19 Vaccinations

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed that oral health professionals are included with other healthcare providers in the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccine roll out, according to the American Dental Association. This decision was made based on input from the Advisory Committee on Immunization.

Confusion arose regarding the inclusion of oral health professionals in the first phase of vaccination priority when the definition of “healthcare personnel” was ambiguous. The CDC has since clarified that oral health professionals are healthcare personnel, and they should be first in line for available vaccines due to their high-risk work environment and the need for individuals to continue receiving professional dental care.
