California Dentists Can Now Administer COVID-19 Vaccinations

California’s Department of Consumer Affairs authorized a public health emergency waiver to allow licensed dentists to provide COVID-19 vaccinations on January 4. Dentists who wish to be part of vaccine administration must complete a 3-hour self-directed training course, which is offered free of charge. More than 450,000 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the state, with another 1.9 million doses slated to arrive soon. California public health officials hope that adding dentists to the number of healthcare professionals currently able to administer vaccines will expand the state’s capacity to distribute vaccines. California has seen a substantial increase in COVID-19 cases—which have now reached 2.47 million—since the Thanksgiving holiday. Click here to read more.
