As of this writing, it is safe to have the Covid-19 vaccine within a few days of having a dental implant. The Pfizer or Moderna vaccine should not have any affect on the tooth implant or bone graft procedure.
Although there is no proof to this statement at this time, my dental colleagues and I have seen no dental reactions or complications to the covid vaccine.
Should I wait to get the Covid vaccine until after the implant?
If you are offered the vaccine, I would take it right away. I have personally had the vaccine as well. All I experienced was a sore shoulder. The implant can even be placed on the day of the covid vaccine if you feel normal. If you feel ill, it would be best to rest and have this another day.
The vaccine should not affect your ability to heal after dental surgery. Also, the COVID-19 vaccine should not affect the implant or bone graft procedure. I recently did full arch replacement on 5 patients who had the vaccine within 5 days of my procedure.
Second vaccine dose and dental surgery
Keep in mind that the second dose is has more side effects than the first. This is especially true in younger people.OTC pain relievers, such as Ibuprofen and Tylenol, might weaken your immune system’s response to Pfizer or Moderna. It’s best to avoid them before you get your shot. But once you’ve received the vaccine, it is ok to take and PTC pain pill. The point is to avoid them before the surgery.
I might avoid ‘major’ dental treatment within 48 hours of the second dose. Your body is already mounting a large immune response. Adding a major surgery is asking a lot!
Hopefully in time we will learn more and validate this information. We all have so many questions about safety. We are figuring out life after the pandemic.Stay safe. I will keep updating this post if anything changes.

Hello,
I got my Pfizer booster shot last Saturday. It’s been 5 days and I’m still in pain – gums area (I had a few implants 3 years ago). Chewing food is not the problem, it just feels like gums are swollen a bit and pain doesn’t go away – Ibuprofen and Tylenol don’t help. Any suggestions? Thanks
When was your last visit to a dentist? Do you have underlying gum disease?
few weeks before the 3rd shot
no underlying gum disease or any other dental conditions
Hmm. Definitely get checked out. I just got my 3rd as well 😊
have same symptoms after Pfizer shot last Wednesday. It’s been 5 days now and not better, even if Ketoprofene helps…. are you better now May ?
I’m fine now
Pain lasted about 2 weeks. Rinsing mouth with hydrogen peroxide helped (1 tsp salt + 1 tsp hydrogen peroxide + 8 oz water)
happy that you are ok and hope that i’ll be better soon too in 2 weeks ! thanks for answering
Hi I did Pfizer and then after month one Thoth implant fall and my wife she also loose her Thoth implant also after vaccine and my mother also loose her tooth implant I am sure something between vaccine and other implant I am only 35 years old and implant only one Thoth 10 year ago no any problem same my wife
WOW! This is quite unique!
Hi Dok! good day..
Please do advise me if its ok to have my tooth extraction a day before my 2nd dose of pfizer vaccine, and to take anti-biotic for wound treatments resulting for that extraction for 7 days also with pain relievers?
Thank you
No problem but avoid the pain pills as stated in the article. So happy for you! Vaccine is the way to go!
Hi Doctor, I had my pfizer second vaccination on 29th July and had lot of side effects. Now my wisdom tooth is paining a lot and my jaw bone is very much swollen and left side of my cheek too is swollen. My doctor suggested an extraction few months back which I couldn’t do at that point due to some personal reasons. So now is it safe to get the tooth extracted with all the side effects I had after vaccination? Will my immune system work well in healing post the surgery?
I’m sorry you had such bad side effects. One of my staff members had the same thing and of course she’s fine now. There will not be any problem with you getting your wisdom tooth extracted. Your immune system will work just as well as it did before. 😊
Thank u so much😊😊
hi dr. ramsey. i will have my 1st dose of aztrazeneca today June 21st. is it ok to have my tooth extraction on June 26th? thanks in advance for the reply

Hi Doc I just had my first vaccine and before that I had a toothache and now is even aching can I go and remove it it’s a wisdom tooth
yes…the timing is fine
Hi. On September 16th. I am scheduled to have 6 cavities and one extraction under sedation. I am scheduled to get my 2nd Pfizer shot on the 13th before my procedure. Is this ok?
Awesome. Yes. No issues.
Hello Doctor,
Good evening. It is safe to get the vaccine if you have an infected gum with abscess? I have been putting on seeing my dentist on hold until after I get vaccinated. Is it safe? Thanks in advance.
Yes it is safe to do so 😉
Hi doc, im taking my second dos of vaccine today , but im having toothache since yesterday, is it okay if i still go and take the vaccine??
yes for sure 😉
Hi,
I’m scheduled for doing 2 implants on July 6 in the morning, and I will get my Pfizer 2nd dose on July 8 afternoon. Do you think it’s safe?
Thanks
Yes –just avoid IBU and steriods
Hello Doc,
I just want to know. If its okay to get my 1st vaccination for Covid 19. I have an appointment tomorrow for my vaccine and 14 july for my root canal treatment. My face is swelling because of my infected tooth. I’m taking antibiotics and paracetamol for my infected tooth. Should I proceed getting my 1st vaccine or wait for my root canal treatment?
Proceed!!!!!!!!
Doc,
Is it okay to have my impacted wisdom tooth removed 1 week after my covid vaccine 2nd dose shot? If not how long should I wait before getting if removed?
Thank you!
No problem. Your timing is good
Doc,
How many days after my 2nd dose of covid-19 I can have my tooth extraction that is safe.
Thank you.
Hi Doctor, I hope all is well. I had my 1st dose of “pfizer” yesterday morning and last night I experienced severe toothache, (not the usual). Can this be be considered one of the side effects of the vaccine? I am currently still having toothache and groggyness right now. I hope you can help me with this. Thank you so much and God Bless.
Take an X-ray. If there is a pre-existing problem then no.
But if it is a perfect tooth maybe there is a relationship?
Hello, please help! My dad has had smelly breath for the last 2 1/2 weeks, and when he touches his gumline it also smells. No other symptoms. He is getting his 2nd Pfizer vaccine this Saturday and has a dentist appt. for July 14th. His primary just prescribed a second dose of Amoxicillan to be safe (total of 2 weeks). Is it safe to wait until July 14th for the dentist appt? I am also very concerned about the second dose and cases of myocarditis. I read somewhere that an infection may cause this. Could a gum infection trigger myocarditis if he gets the second vaccine without getting it treated first?
It sounds like your dad has some pretty bad dental disease. He should have both the vaccine and his dental work done as soon as possible. Sounds like he has periodontal disease. Myocarditis is not a common effect.
Hi, I have 2 broken roots that have to be removed and I’m doing it via sedation on 17th. Dentist mentioned that he would be giving me strong painkillers and antibiotics after. My first vaccine shot is on 23rd. Would there be a problem? Can I continue to take the medication?
If you are off of the ibuprofen couple of days before it will be fine. Hopefully the surgery went well!
I have two does of PFIZER vaccine against corona virus. One month later, i had my tooth extraction. Is it o. K. Thanks
Yes 👍🏻
Hi Doc. I will be having my 1st dose of vaccine tomorrow 22/7. I have this gum infection and abit swell for three days already can I go ahead with the vaccine ?

Kind regards.
Yes and thank you for getting vaccinated 😊

Simultaneously would be absolutely fine!
Doctor,
I appreciate your article above. I want to share with you my experience. I have had considerable dental work performed recently. The week of Christmas, both upper cuspids were extracted on an emergent basis due to infection. Eight weeks ago I had all remaining upper teeth removed and bone grafts implanted. My dentist and periodontist refer to the procedure and work done as extensive and major. I’m not sure why but I do know that they viewed my infection history, proximity to the sinuses, deterioration of the bone and condition of teeth combined with the procedure and bone grafts as extensive work that would require time to fully heal. They were correct. One month later I went and got the J&J vaccine. Within 30-45 minutes I had a sudden and severe headache and felt really tired until midnight of the next day. Then 36 hours after the vaccine, I began to hurt all over, my head, my neck, my joints, my legs, my stomach. I had a terrible headache, my stomach was queasy. I became nauseated. I got dizzy just sitting. I had no energy at all. In short, I felt very very sick.
So I had an immediate reaction to the vaccine, indicating that I had already had Covid. I suspected that I had it. Back in the fall. Around October. It lasted two weeks. My symptoms at that time were similar to the ones I’ve experienced since taking the vaccine. So I assumed, Ok, I must have had Covid. These symptoms, though miserable, will be gone in a couple of days.
That is not what has occurred. In three days, it will be 4 weeks since I had the vaccine. I continue to battle fatigue, stomach upset, headaches. Though it seems to be slowly improving, I experience taking 2 steps forward and one step back. I get weak easily. And battle fatigue daily. Much exertion at all and can feel as bad as I did 4 weeks ago. At times I think it is leaving. Other times I think it never will.
My dentist and periodontist saw me at 6 weeks post procedure and were extremely pleased with my healing, even pleasantly shocked at my rate of healing. They believed that my symptoms are related to the vaccine and that I most likely had Covid, given my immediate response. I contacted the pharmacist at the pharmacy where I received the vaccine. He believed I had Covid as well but my symptom severity and duration is definitely outside of any experience of others who had the vaccine that he was familiar with. I contacted Johnson and Johnson on the 10th day post vaccine. They documented the 10 day experience at that point and were concerned about my pattern being similar with others who had blood clotting issues. That doesn’t appear to be the issue. They too said I must have had Covid or my reaction time after getting the shot would not have been immediate. (Less than an hour)
I am 63 years old. Given that I am definitely an outlier. It has been and continues to be quite debilitating. I have confidence that it will eventually resolve. I communicate this because after searching I find nobody that seems to be aware that this can and is occurring. I discovered only today another person who is a friend of a friend, who also had Covid, got the vaccine and after a month is still unable to carry on with a normal daily life.
Given what I’ve been through, I would not recommend that somebody not take the vaccine surrounding major dental work. But I definitely would not advise that they get the vaccine if they have already had Covid. And if unsure, I would recommend getting the antibody test prior to getting the vaccine. Because these experiences are occurring. And they are not insignificant. I fear that medical professionals are erring in the side of caution. And in doing so, they are erring.
I am not a physician, not clinical at all. But have worked in healthcare for 35 years. As a healthcare executive. I have seldom been sick. But this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Otherwise I would not take the time to write this. My instinct says that my immune system was already revved up due to healing related to the dental work. Also, I had Covid. I got the vaccine. And it sent my immune system into orbit. And it continues in overdrive. Possibly because I am still healing from the dental work and bone grafts.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this. And any suggestions you might have would be very welcomed.
Thank you,
Jamie Townsend
It is certainly possible that you are an outlier on the bell shaped curve!
That being said the vaccine is a wonderful gift to all and is helping bring an end to the pandemic.
There is a theory based on evidence that mankind developed this virus via gain function tinkering in a lab. You dismissed Jamie’s very detailed email to make a joke about a Bell curve and promote propaganda about a “gift” that may be an attempt at eugenics for all we know so far via freedom to information. I had two teeth removed yestersday. I had a bad flu in March of 2020. I’m deciding to postpone it so I can heal my sockets over. Comment? Make a joke. Say something profound.
Hello,
On the same day, I have a 2nd Pfizer at 11:25 and at 17:00, and I have an appointment with the dentist (there will be local anaesthesia). Do you think it is OK, or should I change the vaccine day? (This will be the 40th day after the 1st dosage). Thank you very much! Have a nice day.
This is ok 👌
Hello doctor,
On the same day, I have a 2nd Pfizer at 10:30 and at 13:00 I have an appointment with dentist to remove wisdom tooth. Do you think it is OK to do these on the same day? . Thank you very much!
I would not. I would space them out so that the effects of any anti-inflammatory do not affect your immune system response for the second Pfizer vaccination

Good day doctor, had my first Sinovac shot last June 3, 2021 and my second upper molar tooth broke. I’m in severe tooth pain right now is it okay to have tooth extraction this week? I took paracetamol for pain. I do hope you answer my question, Thank you and be safe.
Not a problem at all 😀
Doc I had 3 Implants surgery 3 days ago should I get the vaccine tomorrow or wait longer ..
As long as you are not on ibuprofen anymore go ahead
I have second dose of pfizer scheduled for June 1st. How long should I wait after vaccine to go for a cavity filling? If I have to go before second dose, how much gap is ideal between cavity filling and second dose?
There is absolutely no reason to wait.
Hello , I had may vaccine last night (Pfizer)
Then I have my schedule for my second treatment for my root canal tomorrow.
Is there any possible effect for this ?
Thank you.
No issues!
Should I do my root canal procedure the same day of covid vaccine
No problem. Just avoid pain relievers
Hello Dr. Amin,
I’m currently scheduled to receive my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Monday, May 24th. I also have a wisdom tooth removal scheduled for the next day, Tuesday, May 25th. They will be removing both of my right side wisdom teeth as the bottom tooth is impacted. I will be getting IV sedation for the wisdom tooth removal and probably the standard post-procedure prescription painkillers. I was wondering, is it okay to go through with this? Or could there be any issues from doing these things on back-to-back days that would make me want to reschedule the vaccine/wisdom tooth removal? Thank you in advance for any help/information you can provide!
In order to gain maximum effect of the vaccine I would suggest you space out the 2 bit more than your current schedule.
Hi, Doc. I’m from Thailand, I will have my tooth extraction this Sunday (May 23) and I’m scheduled to have my first shot of sinovac vaccine on June 4. Should I go with my tooth extraction this Sunday?
Dr, I’m having toothache now, need remove long time ago, tomorrow with the pain, can i take 2nd dose vaccine?
yes!
Did you do the wisdom teeth removal ? I have the same question
Dear Doctor,
I am from India, 3 days back I got left last molar swelling and on 17MAY21 I started Amoxicillin with Pottasium calvante, can I still go for Covid vaccination please suggest.
Doctor vaccination will be for 1st dose for me.
Dr, I’m having toothache now, need remove long time ago, tomorrow with the pain, can i take 2nd dose vaccine?
Given the crisis that indeed it is currently in with COVID 19 I would get the vaccine right away. Nothing should delay that. Everything else is secondary to the vaccine with the current situation in India.
Stay safe~!
Thank you Doctor
I have to have a root canal and a tooth extraction next week. My second Covid vaccination is Friday. The dentist suggested I start taking amoxicillin, is it OK to take the anabiotic now or should I wait till after the vaccination? Thanks!
it is ok to take it
Hi I have been on antibiotics the whole of this week, today being the last day. Tomorrow I am scehduled to take pfizer vaccine tomorrow. Is it ok to go ahead with the vaccine?

If you are in a region where the vaccine can be slightly delayed a few more days would help.
Hi Dr. Ramsey. I have question. My son schedule an appointment for his first covid vaccine shot on May 26 ,he also scheduled his gum graft on July 3th. Is it going to be ok just 2 weeks apart from his second vaccine shot and his gum graft. Thank you
Sounds good

Hi!
I have a wisdom teeth removal procedure the day before my 1st vaccine. It will be local anesthetic and I will be on pain meds for a few days. Is that alright or should I reschedule my vaccine?
reschedule vaccine
Hi Dr Amin, I removed my both right side wisdom teeth on Saturday 05/08/21 and I have scheduled my second Covid vaccine Moderna dose on Saturday 05/15/21. My doctor give my amoxicillin 3 times a day and ibuprofen 600 with Tylenol. I still have pain in that area. Today Thursday 05/13/21 morning I will take my both medicines So can you please advise me which medicines I will take and how many days before not taking my medicines when i get my Covid vaccines.
Hey I just got my first shot of the pfizer vaccine today and I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning for two permanent crowns to get put in, my mom was telling me I should really wait until I finished any dental work before getting the vaccine because there might be some problem as far as inflammation and/or pain and effectiveness but I got it today worried I might not find another time to get the Vaccine before my trip, should I be concerned about my crown appointment tomorrow?
You are being told misinformation. Go ahead and get the vaccine
I just got my second dose of moderna yesterday and my symptoms are horrible. I’m experiencing chills, body aches, fever, flu like symptoms and tooth pain/ sensitivity. I didn’t expect to feel like this and the tooth pain totally caught me off guard. The CDC needs to add this to their list. I see I’m not the only one experiencing this.
Hello Dr.Amin, I had my first pfizer shot on 28th April and on 5th May had a root canal on my upper right molar. There is swelling and doctor had prescribed clindamycin 125mg every 6 hrs and since there was not much improvement he prescribed Z-PAK(Azithromycin) 250 mg. I started this today. My 2nd vaccine shot is scheduled on 05/19, should i go ahead with the 2nd shot or should i postpone it? I am wondering if azithromycin would reduce the efficacy of the vaccine. Pls clarify.
Thanks a lot
Sorry for the late reply. Azithromycin and Clinda are not a great medication for dental infections.
Hi there, I have 3 abscessed teeth (lower front) and a bladder infection. I just started amoxicillin and am taking Tylenol 3 (with codeine) for pain. My first vaccination appointment is tomorrow. Is it okay to still get the shot or do I post pone?
Get the shot!
Hi sir,
I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth which were impacted taken out this morning I went under general anesthesia through an Ig than also had local anesthesia injected to my gums. Ive been placed on an opioid as well as Motrin. I’m scheduled to get my second dose on the 22 of may is there any reason for me to postpone my next shot?
all good!
Hi sir,
I’m from india I took my 1st covid vaccine on 29/04/2021 and from last four days I was suffering with my caries tooth, my doctor has suggested to go with root canal treatment.
Is it ok if I go with treatment right now after my 1st shot of covid vaccine and is it ohk if I take the anesthesi, antibiotics and painkillers.
Considering what is happening in India right now, the vaccine is WAY more important than any dental problem!
40 hours after second Moderna shot and after a day of flu symptoms I woke feeling much better. Until I brushed my teeth – pain. Then I took a drink of coffee – intense tooth pain. Permanent front upper bridge pain is the worst here. But bottom front teeth also ache. I’ve never had any tooth pain before. Since others have had same issue after their second Moderna vaccine, it seems like this is a bit more than coincidence.
Me too! On the day after my second shot of Moderna my teeth started to ache and I got a lot of pain with hot/ cold drinks…now it’s 3 days later and pain seems to move to different teeth. I sure hope this is temporary ….
I had the 1st pfizer vaccine feb 24. Since then, I had two root canals and they still have temporary filling. I am scheduled to at the dental office to get two one day crowns on 5/11/21. How long do I have to wait after I get these crowns before I can get the 2nd Pfizer Vaccine and be safe? Thank you
And the two are unrelated. You can do the vaccine whenever you want. It sounds like you’re overdue for the second dose already
I have had a toothache with swelling the last couple days, that I have been taking ibuprofen for. I haven’t taken any since 2 this afternoon my first dose of vaccine is tomorrow afternoon can I still get it?
Hello Doctor,
I hope you are doing great.
I am in my early 30’s and will get my 2nd Pfizer shot on 5/25.
On 5/27 I have 2 wisdom tooth extraction planned.
What do you think about the timing ? Should I postpone the extraction?
Best regards,
You probably will be OK. It seems to be just the first night for most people if they get any symptoms after the second shot.
I had 2 teeth pulled today cause of pain no infection just big cavities I have my 2nd COVID shot tomorrow can I still get it? I don’t know where to reschedule so I would still like to get it tomorrow
It’s best to get the vaccine when you’re able to. Pain medications like ibuprofen etc. will only slightly alter your immune system. The vaccine is the beginning of the end of this pandemic
I got my second shot of Moderna a few days ago. I’m having excruciating pain now in my teeth/gums, usually different teeth in different parts of my mouth. Sometimes, I could not even eat because it hurts too much to chew. I have TMJ periodically and what I am experiencing now reminds me a lot about it but it has never been this bad and I’m not sure if it’s TMJ this time. Could it be related to the vaccine? The pain at times becomes unbearable, at other times it’s moderate or disappears unless I start to eat. I brush my teeth a lot, use my water pick a lot and and electric toothbrush and also I floss a lot. That seems to help somewhat for a little while. I tried to wear my night guard but most of the time the pain increases. Thank you in advance for your answer.
Did you ‘ever’ have this before the vaccine?
I have TMJ periodically and what I am experiencing now reminds me a lot about it but it has never been this bad and I’m not sure if it’s TMJ this time. Could it be related to the vaccine or is it a more severe form of TMJ that I have not experienced before? I tried to wear my night guard but it hurt too much. I resumed some TMJ exercises that had been given to me many years ago and they seem to help a little the pain is still pretty bad.
How is it now Rossie?
The pain is less now, but it’s still not gone, much better though. I’m hopeful it will go away and after reading the posts of the other people experiencing similar pain it seems to me that it may have something to do with the vaccine. I don’t have any regrets about getting the vaccine. I just hope that all the tooth/gum pain will totally go away.
Hi Dr. I’m actually going through a very similar response to my 2nd dose of moderna as Rossie. The night that I got it I had the worst tooth sensitivity and pain in my whole mouth. It was so hard to fall asleep. I had other side effects through the night and the whole next day. The tooth pain went away the next morning. And now three days later I’m having another headache and tooth pain throughout my entire mouth in different areas. Although I have TMJ this is different and I rarely have sensitivity/pain like this.
I was very surprised to see this post. I too have had both doses of the Covid vaccination and have been experiencing the same discomfort in my teeth and gums for more than a month now. I also have experienced a metallic taste sensitivity to my teeth especially when I eat anything sweet. I’ve had numbness in my jaws and lips and tingling in my hands. Initially suspected TMJ but believe it’s links to the vaccination. I spoke with someone over the weekend who is also experiencing the metallic taste and teeth sensitivity. Very interested to learn more about this odd side effect.
Thank you for posting
Rossie,
So glad I found this. I am having the same problem. I’ve been searching all over and nothing until now. My pain started about 4-5 days after my 1st dose and was really bad for about 4 days. So bad I could barely brush my teeth in the area or eat on it for two days. It began to hurt in an area where I had a cavity done and has been sensitive for about a year and in upper and lower areas not he left side. This morning it’s a little sensitive but barely any pain! I think this is definitely a side effect of the vaccine.
So far we are still not seeing a link besides coincidence
Dr. Amin,
I feel like with this many coincidences that it may be worth reporting to the CDC. I’ve reported my personal experience but maybe as a Dentist, it may hold a little more weight coming from you.
Thanks,
Adrian
I just wanted to share that I believe there has to be SOME sort of link between the intense tooth pain and Covid-19 but not necessarily the vaccine. I tested positive for Covid-19 almost 4 months ago and about 4 weeks ago I was having the symptoms many on here have been describing. Excruciating tooth pain that would migrate to different teeth over a period of several days. I had intense pain in my upper back tooth (which I am scheduled to have pulled due to cavities) for a couple hours and then it would switch to my lower back tooth (which is chipped but has never caused any pain) and an hour later I was having headache pain on my left side(like I was being stabbed with an ice pick in my temple) …but no tooth pain.,but a few hrs later the tooth pain was back!! I felt like I was sounding like a hypochondriac . It was like NOTHING I have EVER experienced!!. I truly believe that there has to be some correlation between Covid-19 virus and tooth/head pain. In my case it would have been due to having the virus PREVIOUSLY. As for the vaccine, however, I got my first dose of the Moderna VACCINE one week ago and have not had any tooth pain whatsoever…just a sore arm and mild sinus headache. I’m curious whether anyone who reported having this tooth pain after getting the vaccine previously tested positive for the virus! ??Sounds like someone may need to do a study on this🧐
I took my 2nd Pfizer dose yesterday and now I have a level 7-8 pain in one of my teeth, but all/most of them are more sensitive than usual. Came online to see if others had the same. I’ve never had this kind of sensitivity before. Can’t imagine it’s from anything other than the vaccine. Hopefully, it goes away like Adrian posted.
Hi- so weird I found this. I’ve been having some random tooth nerve pain after vaccine, as well. First one was felt 3 days after 1st shot – not related to eating or drinking but intermittent and in a tooth I’ve never had issues with. Next morning gone and hasn’t returned. I’m now 2 1/2 weeks post second shot and now suddenly having intermittent tooth nerve pain in the front of one of my front teeth where I had a filling repaired 4 months ago. So odd. I never had pain after my filling was done. I just find this all pretty strange post-vaccine because these tooth nerve pains are brief and fleeting.
I was just looking up whether the second dose of the Covid vaccine causes dental pain and found this. At the start of this week, a root canal was attempted on a tooth that was causing pain. I was prescribed antibiotics before coming in and the pain was mainly gone. The root canal was not successful because of where the cavity was located and laxk of enough structure. I was given a temporary fill and a referral to an oral surgeon. Aside from the first day, my mouth/tooth have been fine. This morning, after receiving the second dose of Moderna, my tooth is excruciating. It hurts like it did before antibiotics, and when I accidentally got a piece of food stuck inside. The pain is radiating in my jaw. Don’t know if the soreness/inflammatory response from the vaccine is triggering it again, but it was fine for days (and should be better than before seeing the dentist) and now I’m miserable.
Hi doctor.. I have had Anesthesia taken a week a go now for implant and would be taking COVID vaccine in the coming week will that be okay?

I have an infection and need a root canal. Tooth does not hurt. I’m supposed to get my covid vaccine before the root canal. About a week before. Is this ok to get the vaccine before the root canal?
yes
Hi doc,
I also wanted to ask, I had my 1st root canal appointment last 22nd April & I took my 1st dose of pfizer vaccine on 29th April.. My follow up root canal appointment is on 3rd of May.. will it be okay if they inject local anesthesia? After getting the 1st dose? Thank you
Hi Dr. My wife is scheduled to have her teeth pulled and dentures made on May 10. We have our vaccinations scheduled for May 1. Will this cause any issues with her dental work?
Nope 😀
I know you have answered various questions regarding wisdom teeth extraction and the COVID shots. My 19 year old will be getting first shot on 4/30 and his second on 5/23. He is scheduled for his wisdom teeth surgery for 5/21 so I know he will be on those meds that people mentioned. Is it ok for him to get the 2nd shot just two days after his wisdom teeth surgery? Or would you postpone both vaccines to a later date? Thank you so much.
Hello Dr Amin. I have two wisdom tooth removal appointment tomorrow April 26 and my first dose Pfizer appointment is on May 1st. After tooth extraction, I believe that I have to take some painkillers and antibiotics. is it okay to take my vaccine shot on May 1st? because I heard that painkillers can make to reduce the immune system so i m worried i can’t handle my 1st dose side effects.
Hello, I got gum graft surgery on 4/22 and have taken ibuprofen up until 5pm 4/23. I have my second dose of the covid vaccine on Sunday, 4/25. Will it be okay to get the dose 2 of the shot or should I wait? I’m only taking amoxicillin now. Thank you!
yes, I would
Hello,
I am suppose to have 4 wisdom teeth removed tomorrow – April 29 @ 9:45 am EST- & my 2nd dose is scheduled for May 3rd @ 1:45 pm EST, would there be any issue?
Thank you!
likely not – but eliminate pain pills by May 2
Cutting it close!
Hello Dr. Amin, My spouse has taken the second pzifer shot on 21 Apr and his tooth pain aggravated. The dentist suggested the removal of the wisdom tooth. Is it safe to remove now within 2 weeks of vaccination? He has been on ibuprofen after the vaccination to reduce pain. He had not taken ibuprofen before vaccination.
Thank you!
Yes – safe to remove.
Most of these dental problems would’ve happened with or without the vaccine. It’s easy to try to correlate the two but generally they are not connected.
Thanks so much for the immediate reply. That’s very helpful!
I took ibuprofen two days ago and today I m going to get sinophorm vaccine is it safe ?
Yes 👍🏻
Hi Doc! Is it okay to have teeth deep cleaning (with novocaine shot) just 4 days after my 1st dose of Covid vaccine?
yes!
Tomorrow I might be getting a root canal and maybe a tooth pulled. I’ve had the Johnson and Johnson vaccine 49 days ago. Will this dental procedures cause any blood clotting issues? Should I have it done?
Have the root canal done!
Hi – I had 3 wisdom teeth removed last Friday (04/16) and I am scheduled to have my first moderna shot on 04/23. I finished my medrol pack today (04/22), last took ibuprofen yesterday (04/21), and will finish amoxicillin on the day of the shot 04/23.
Do you recommend me moving the shot?
Hi Dr. Amin, I have to get 2 crowns replaced and 2 fillings done 3 days before my 2nd dose. Do you think that is an ok time frame in between?
yes
My so had all 4 wisdom teeth out Thursday and today 3rd day getting his vaccine. At 5pm he took 1 pain pill this am. As they had to break the 2 impacted teeth on the bottom into 3 pieces is it safe for him to get this second dose? He isn’t getting it he said no matter what.
Vaccine as the beginning of the end of this pandemic! Get it!
I have a 10am Appointment for my second Moderna Shot and have a scheduled Dentist appointment at 3PM to fill a cavity…should I reschedule the Dentist appointment?
I was wondering if it would be okay if on Monday, 4/26, I’m getting my second covid shot, and Tuesday I’m having 3 wisdom teeth removed, is that okay? I’ll be on a couple medications starting Monday such as amoxicillin and the day of surgery ibuprofen
How were your after the first?
If you are down a bit after the second it maybe be rough
Hi Dr. Amin! I’m so glad we found your website. It is incredibly informative and helpful. Thank you!
My 18 year old sons are scheduled to have their 2nd Pfizer shot on April 27. They both need to have their impacted wisdom teeth removed with anesthesia (via IV I believe). How long would you recommend they wait to schedule their extractions after the second dose of Pfizer? Also, how long would you think they would experience pain and swelling after a non-complicated impacted 4 wisdom tooth extraction? Thank you so much for any input you are able to provide.
If it is possible to wait for a while then by all means wait. It is normal to experience some pain and swelling even after non-complicated wisdom extractions. Do not assume both of your sons will respond the same way either. If there anything like my kids they are all very different…LOL
Thank you, Dr. Amin! I agree; they will likely be very different. To confirm, based on what you and your colleagues have seen so far, it would be reasonably safe for me to schedule the impacted wisdom tooth extractions 16 days after their second shot in your opinion? Thank you again!!!
Sounds like I have a lot of the same questions as everyone else but I want to be sure so here it goes. My 18 y/o son just had his wisdom teeth out on 4/16, 4 days ago, and he is taking Methylprednisolone 4 mg dose pack for 6 days with the last dose finishing tomorrow, 4/21, AND he is also taking as prophylaxis only, Clindamycin HCL 300 mg which he will be finishing on 4/22. He is also seldom taking the Ibuprofen 800 mg for pain which is only like a 4 out of 10 for him. He will have no problem holding off on Ibuprofen the day of his vaccine. He was scheduled for his first Moderna COVID vaccine this Saturday, 4/24, in the afternoon. Are these ABs and Steroids going to affect the efficacy of the vaccine? Should he postpone his first dose and if so for how long do you recommend? Thank you for your help and for this thread.
Sorry for the late reply to him but I would postpone due to the steroid. Now we are not in a situation where it difficult to get a vaccine appointment. This is different than just a few months back when it was a problem.
My question is I’m having my 1st VaccinationOf moderna this Thursday and I’m having a root canal on Saturday is this safe to do the root canal Thank you
I am due to have my Sinovac Vaccine tomorrow. But I have tooth abscess. Is it safe to get the vaccine or just postpone it?
Yea
I just had 1 wisdom tooth extracted today 4/19/21 and have not taken meds although I want to.
I have my 2nd covid vaccine tomorrow 4/20/21 . Should I cancel . And is it ok to use clove essential oil to numb the pain on an extraction
Keep appt
Cloves…hmm. I would not.
Hi Dr. Amin, this is such a helpful posting and q&a. Thank you so much for answering so many questions.
I rec’d my second dose of the pfizer vaccine on Saturday and am supposed to have a laser dental treatment on Thursday w/ both topical and injected anesthesia. I am concerned that the anesthesia may impact the efficacy of the vaccine. Is this something you might be able to clarify/explain?
The local anesthetic has no effect 😇
I’m going and same thing
Hello! I am scheduled on Wednesday (April 21) for tooth extraction and the bone graft portion of dental implant procedure. Then I am scheduled for my second COVID vaccine (Moderna) on Friday (April 23). Is that too close together? Should I try to delay the vaccine? I am also a COVID survivor, so the vaccine side effects are notable.
Had a tooth ache/infection for 2 days i took paracetamol 500 for pain, tomorrow is my sched for vaccine. Is it ok to get my vaccine or reschedule it? Thanks
If you are able to move your shot you can get more effectiveness.
Hello, should I get COVID-vaccine the day after I get dental anesthesia ?
Usually ok
I had surgery on my gums cut some of the bone in order to replace a crown 2 months ago, I had shot 1 March 31, and get shot 2 on April 28th. I noticed 6 days ago cold water causes pain where I had surgery. Help
I just got my dental implant done today and i have my fist dose of the Pfizer vaccine tomorrow, should i reschedule for another day?
what meds are you taking?
Hello Dr. Amin,
My 19 yr old daughter is to begin a 6-day Prednisone pack the day before wisdom teeth extraction (4 total), with a Diazepam tab the morning of, and some anesthesia. She is seeking a Covid Vaccine one month before. If Pfizer, the 2nd vax shot would be 6 days before the Prednisone begins. Is this unwise?Or should she wait a few weeks to seek 2nd Vaccine shot. Thank you.
I’m a little bit confused with the timing. In general it would be good to be off the steroid prior to the vaccine for a few days.
Dr. Amin, thank you for your answer, and for responding so quickly!
Hello, I had lip surgery last Tuesday. I had old silicone injections in my lips surgically removed. I currently am swollen and have stitches. I am scheduled this Tuesday ( one week apart) for my second dose of Covid 19 Moderna vaccine. Will I be ok or should I reschedule it has been 5 1/2 weeks since my first dose.
Thank you.
You need that 2nd dose!
read the post about pain meds
I have a toothache and I’m on antibiotics and ibuprofen for pain do I have to stop my antibiotics before my 2nd shot of covid on may 3 ? And when do I have to stop taking ibuprofen before the shot ?
Always finish antibiotics! Probably stop Ibuprofen a couple of days before.
My husband had an implant and bone graph two days ago. He has an artificial heart valve. He is very swollen. His 2nd dose of Covid vaccine is scheduled today. Should he reschedule? Not taking any OTC meds but is taking ordered meds.
what are the “ordered meds?”
Hello, I am scheduled at 10 am for dental work on 4/21 and at 3 pm I’m scheduled for my 2nd Pfizer dose. Is this OK or should I reschedule my dental appointment?
Very basic Dentistry will be just fine
is it ok to have covid vax after getting numbing injection and using one valium ?
Yes 👍🏻
Thank you so much for answering so many questions! 24 hours after receiving my 2nd Moderna vaccine, my teeth became sensitive to cold. All of my teeth, even my crowns. I have no other symptoms or reactions that I have noticed. Have other people experienced this as a vaccine side effect? Should I be concerned?
This is not common. This is likely coincidental but if anybody experience is the same thing it would be nice to post this as well
Yes, I got my first dose of the Moderna Vaccine on April 15 and 2 days later my bottom left side became swollen and my teeth were sensitive to cold. I had my dentist look at my teeth about 4 months ago and everything was fine .I think this is due to the moderna vaccine. It is 3 days since i got the vaccine and it seems to be getting better. But still teeth on bottom left are sensitive and my face is swollen on the left side ,but not to bad. Any ideas?
I would need a full
Exam and X-rays to determine. Sorry 😢
Hi Dr. Amin,
I had 4 teeth extracted on 4/17/2021 and forgot I had my second dose of moderna COVID vaccine was scheduled for 4/19/2021. I’m currently on Clindamycin and Tylenol #3. Is it wise to move forward with the second dose of the vaccine 2 days after the extractions?
What meds are you taking for pain? But you need the second dose!
Tylenol #3
Is the Tylenol not the codeine that may block some of the effectiveness.
I can’t we don’t know that much much these things all inhibit The formation of prostaglandin which is part of the cascade of events that helps our immune system
Thank you for your response. I found out a friend had the same sensation with teeth 24 hours after the 2nd Moderna vaccine. For both of us, it appeared after 24 hours and lasted about 24 hours. Strange.
Yes. I have the same exact issue after second Moderna. Made appt with my dentist. Though I just had full check up with xrays 3 weeks before.
Hello, I have a cavity under crown that fell out 2 weeks ago. My dentist couldn’t get me in right away..it is more tender now than when it fell out..I am getting my 2nd moderna vaccine tomorrow(Tuesday) and then dentist appointment following Monday..feeling a little run down already..will the vaccine be ok to take? Thank you
Good Afternoon Dr. Amin,
As a reply to the post regarding dental pain following injection. Following my first moderna vaccine, I developed a painful jaw and swelling near an implant. Following my second vaccine, a couple of days ago, I experienced the same swelling and pain near a different implant but this time, I seemed to have developed an abscess.
It is likely this is coincidental and there is some sort of problem where the implant may be failing or has a gum problem. I would see a dentist right away. Unfortunately dental implants are not forever but from what we know so far the COVID vaccine has no effect on them.
I have heard that from others
I had an implant and another area bone grafting. 24 hours after 2nd vaccine I have pain in those areas and I did not experience pain prior to vaccine.
I received my second Moderna injection yesterday and in addition to high fever, headache and chills, my teeth are aching and even feel like shooting nerve pain now in both upper and lower jaw on the right with the nerve pain traveling into ear canal.
I have the same symptoms following the second shot of the Pfizer vaccine. Extreme sensitivity to cold foods or fluids.
I too got my second mederma injection. And my teeth feel weird. Cold sensitivity as well. It’s almost like I can wiggle them is how it feels. Seems Strange. I know it’s got to be a side effect of the shot. I don’t believe in coincidences
Just took my 2nd Pfizer shot yesterday and experiencing the exact same thing.
Hi Dr Amin, Is it recommendable to receive the second shot of covid Vacine in the morning and having an implant surgery PM, thank you
There’s no problem with antibiotics. The goal is to avoid ibuprofen. What will you be using for pain?
Had the 2nd pfizer today and my teeth are so sensitive I can barely brush them! Is this common and will it go away. I regularly visit my dentist so this is definitely a vaccine related symptom.
How is it now 2 days later?
Hello! Thank you for replying. The pain and sensitivity lasted only 24 hours. I wonder if inflammation related to the body’s response to the vaccine played a role. I feel great today. No issues!
Thanks for the update
Thanks for your response, Ketorolac is the drug used for pain relief
Ketorolac is of the same family of ibuprofen… NSAID which stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
Hi Doctor Amin. I am scheduled to get a tooth extraction on May 15th and my 1st dose of covid vaccine on the May 17th. Will it be okay? Should I postpone my tooth extraction after I got the vax?
Vaccine availability is now easier than getting a dental appt. keep the dental appt and move the vaccine 💉 to the 20th
Hello Doc Amin, I got my wisdom tooth removed – 3 days ago and currently having sore in mouth which cause of headache and hard to eat properly. Is it safe to get my first dose of Pfizer vaccine Tomorrow? I hope you will notice my comment. Thank you.
Yes- What are you using for pain?
Thanks for replying,Doc. Before i take divid 75mg ( Diclofenac sodium ) and Metrolag 500mg. But i already stop since yesterday.
Hi Dr. Amin,
I took my Pfizer 1st dose on 13th April and scheduled for root canal on 18th April is the timing is ok. I am little worried about the pain killer might cause any illness to my health because of vaccine.
Please advise
Your timing is good 😌
hi Dr Amin, i am having my second shot of sinovac covid vaccine on 4/19 AM and have scheduled two implants on 4/19 PM with antibiotics starting 48 hours in advance, Do you see any problem with schedule? Thanks
There’s no problem with the antibiotics. The goal is to avoid some ibuprofen. What will you be using for pain?
Dr Amin, I received my second covid-19 vaccination shot on Wednesday morning. It’s Friday morning and I’m scheduled for two molars to receive posts and crowns. Aside from some back ache, I feel ok today. Do you see any reason to delay having the work done?
No…you are good to go!
Thank you!
Good evening Dr. Amin,
I have a question, is it OK to take the vaccine after I had my wisdom teeth removal surgery (on the same day)?
Thank you so much
From a logistical standpoint, if you were being sedated how are you driving to the vaccine center?
Hello Nicole, I was wondering how your experience was taking the covid vaccine on the same day as your wisdom teeth removal. I have two of my wisdom teeth removal on the same day scheduled as my covid vaccine.
I took first shot of Covid-19 vaccine on 9th April, I got a cavity at my wisdom tooth of the lower jaw, I have this problem for a long time. Is it fine if go for removal of teeth now?
please advise me on this
thanks
veera
Yes 👏🏻
I have my wisdom teeth removal April 21st but my second Pfizer shot Friday April 23rd. Should i rescheduled my surgery?
Is it all four wisdom teeth under sedation?
I’m not really sure but I believe so.
I am going to have my second shot on may 15 but my wisdom tooth surgery on may 14, all four under sedation
There’s no problem with antibiotics. The goal is to avoid ibuprofen. What will you be using for pain?
Hello Dr. Amin
I am getting my 4 wisdom teeth removed on April 23rd and I am pretty sure I will take anesthesia with IV. I was planning on getting my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on April 18th. Is this timing okay? This means my first dose would be 4 days before the surgery and I would be getting the second dose about 2 weeks after the surgery. Should I wait to schedule vaccines after the surgery, or should I carry on with this plan?
Carry-on with this plan… It is perfect! 🤩
Thank you so much Dr.Amin!!
Hello Dr. Amin I just had my first moderna vaccine 4/13 and will have my second dose 5/11. I was wondering if it would be okay to have an extraction, cyst removal and bone graft done on 4/30 under general anesthesia or if it would be better to do it after my second dose.
Your timing is ideal for dental surgery 😊
Hello Dr. Amin…..I have a question, is it okay to go to the Dentist and receive novacaine after receiving my Covid vaccine shot two weeks before? Thank You!
Not a problem – Novocain has no effect on vaccine efficacy
I had johnson and Johnson vaccine on the 11th today the 15th i have to get cavities filled is it ok to get numbing shots
Thank you for this very helpful information. I am scheduled for a root canal at 10:00am and my second Moderna vaccine that same afternoon. Should timing be a concern if Iidocaine is used? Are there any other meds that the dentist might use that I should ask them about? Thank you!
For a root canal most likely they would only suggest ibuprofen which I would avoid prior to the Moderna vaccine.
I think you will be fine to keep both appointments. 😊
Thank you!!!
How many hours before should we avoid Ibuprufen before Vaccine? I had my root canal done on 5/3/2021 at 4PM and taken ibuprofen 800mg 2 times after root canal. If I have pain is it ok for me to take ibuprofen again before I go for vaccine on 5/5/2021 morning? Please advise
The less ibuprofen the better but get the vaccine!
I am scheduled for J&J vaccine on Wednesday. My back molar became inflamed today, is hurting and bleeding when flossing. I am concerned it is infected. I had gum disease last year, had deep dental cleaning but that area never completely stopped bleeding when flossing. Should I wait to get my vaccine and instead go to my dentist?
Is it OK to take ibuprofen 10 days after having the Pfizer Vaccine for pain from having a crown on tooth # 31? I think it may be infected, but wasn’t given an antibiotic? Should I ask the dentist for
an antibiotic? I am scheduled to have my 2nd Pfizer Vaccine on May 12th. I am scheduled to have another root canal on Tooth #30 on July 1st. Is it safe to take ibuprofen after having the vaccine? Thanks for your help.
Is it safe to take ibuprofen after having the vaccine
Hi Dr, i am in urge of doing root canal for my molar. I have my first dose of Moderna Vaccine on Thursday. Should i consider doing my root canal before or after the vaccine? Please advice. I might have to take pain killers if i need to deal with pain. Please advice.
Get the vaccine and avoid painkillers before the vaccine
How many hours before the vaccine we shouldn’t take ibuprofen?
Ideally 24-48
I have cracked tooth, and the gum gets hurt. I am taking Metronidazole 500mg in case of infection. The first dose of Moderna vaccine is scheduled on April 14th. Is that okay to keep taking Metronidazole 500mg in the morning on April 13th?
Yes 👍🏻
Hello. I am scheduled for my 2nd Pfizer vaccine tomorrow (4/12) in the evening. I somehow cracked a molar that has already had a root canal done. I am going to try to get into the dentist in the morning. I was wondering what is/isn’t safe to have done the day of (before) my 2nd vaccine. I don’t want to put off fixing the tooth (becoming painful, hasn’t fully broke yet) and I don’t want to delay the vaccine either if I don’t have to. I am 39, no underlying medical conditions.
Just avoid Advil/Tylenol type of meds. Novacaine is ok!
My husbands tooth is loose in front needs to be pulled we are scheduled for second Pfizer shot wednesday April 14 can he have novacaine any time this week
Yes 🙌
hi so happy I found this page ! Thank you
My daughter vaccine (2nd dose ) was pushed back to 2 days (April 27) before wisdom teeth extraction 4 and dental implants post being put in
She is 18 and this mom is worried
Is this ok ? Thank you again
Better if the dental surgery is after the vaccine if she will need pain meds or steroids
Hello Dr. Amin,
First of all thank you so much for the great informative article and answering every question here and helping us all! 🙏🏻
I am very confused about which vaccine to take – do you prefer Pfizer over JnJ?
My n my husband got covid in Oct’2020 and have read in few articles that since we already have some antibodies due to covid no need to take two dose vaccine hence more inclined towards JnJ.
My second question is my hubby is type 2 dib and he recently started metamorphic medicine for couple of weeks and his Pfizer 1st dose shot is this Saturday, is he good to go for the vaccine and keep continue with his dib medicine.?
My last question is I am having cavities in 3-4 teeth and May be one need a root Canal the dentist is not sure, she said while cleaning the cavity I will let you know if root canal is required or not as of now in x Ray the nerves are not touching but it’s v close, for the cavity filling they will use the numbing injection- is it ok to get the treatment done and also if root canal required then antibiotics etc be given… I am also planning for Pfizer first dose this Saturday (10th April 2021). Should I wait for my dentist appointment and get it done after both the doses or can it be done in between the doses also?
Please help replying to my queries.
Thank you so much in advance for giving your valuable time in answering our queries. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I think it’s OK for you to get your vaccine with your cavity treatment
As for preference of Pfizer versus Johnson & Johnson versus Moderna… That’s not something I can really comment on. I think they are all excellent vaccines. I personally had the Moderna vaccine.
I think both of you should get vaccinated sooner than later! The vaccine is the beginning of the end of this pandemic!
Okay, Thank you so much for your reply Dr. 🙏🏻
I got 3 fill in a week ago and it has been bothering me. I am planning on going back to the dentist tomorrow which is 4/5 to get it check out. He might want to do a root canal or some other type of dental work on 4/6. My second moderna shot is 4/7. Will I be ok or just try to hold out with the dentist until after my shot. I know after the dentist on 4/5 I’ll probably need to take some Tylenol. Would I still be fine on 4/7?
Ok for dentist. Avoid Tylenol
Doctor.
I have an extraction and an implant on a Thursday. A vaccine appointment two days later on Saturday. Should I keep the vaccine appointment or wait to heal?
KEEP!!!!
Hi, I’m supposed to get a tooth extraction, on 4/16 and im getting my second dose of the pfizer on 4/15 should this be ok? Or should i postpone one of them?
Your timing is excellent. Get the vaccine! 😊
I received my second moderna vaccine last night and have no symptoms other than a sore arm. I am supposed to have a scaling done at the dentist today at noon. Will this be okay or should I reschedule?
Not a problem
I’m guessing I got to address a little bit too late. I can’t answer every question that quickly
I received my second Pfizer shot yesterday evening at 4:00. I have oral surgery scheduled tomorrow morning to extract all four wisdom teeth with general anesthesia. It sounds like I should postpone the surgery since this is only about 36 hours after the 2nd shot. Welcome your advice doctor!
I think you will be fine. No reason to reschedule the dental surgery. The fact that you had the vaccine before the surgery is the best order. It’s generally the first night of the second vaccination that has the biggest issues for some people. By tomorrow morning you will already be in the clear 😊
Hi, I currently have an abscess in my gums under my tooth line. I’m scheduled to get my 1st shot of the vaccine today, is it safe to get with a current abscess?
Yes 👍🏻
Hi! I received the J&J vaccine yesterday! By the end of the day the area in which my wisdom teeth are located (upper, left side) was irritated. Throughout the night it has become much worse. Should I be concerned with infection while my body is going through this process with the vaccine? Recommendations?
Your wisdom teeth hurting are likely coincidental. There is no current connection between dental pain and Covid vaccines
I was wondering since I just had my J&J Vaccine about 8 days ago & all this controversy about clots. Should I get my wisdom teeth pulled. I’m a older person. Thanks!
No problem if that’s already scheduled to be done
Hello Baylee, how is JnJ vaccine any side effects like the other two vaccines? Please if you could share your experience. I am more inclined towards JnJ vaccine because on only dose but confused also.
I have observed many patients who had Johnson & Johnson vaccine along with dental work. No reactions of any kind.
Okay, Thank you Dr.
I have a dental infection. Not taking meds for pain, can’t even get to my dentist for two weeks. Shot is scheduled for today. My concern is the infection. Is it really safe to get this shot with an active infection?
No gland swelling but localized pain for the last month. Really concerned about this.
No issues Tim. Get vaccinated! 😇
I’m having the same issue, one week before my second shot and but yes I have my gum swelling a litlle as well as that side of my cheeck only I can notice it, it feels like I bit my cheeck from inside, and a little pain with pressure, so I was wondering if It would be safe to get my 2nd pfizer next weekend.
Do you have your lower wisdom teeth?
Are you 16-30 years old?
I’m 44 and I feel the swelling over my second molar upper left side, I have been flossing and brushing 3 times a day, also rinsing with Listerine, I think I had both wisdom teeth removed from that side long time ago. I don’t know when I will be able to find an appt with the dentist and my 2nd shot is on May 2nd. It worries me getting the shot while having this infection and also having any procedure with dental anesthesia and the shot at the same time.
Get the vaccine. No need to wait.
Dear Dr. Amin
I got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on 3/27/21, and I am removing 1 wisdom tooth today on 4/3/21. I will not go under anesthesia, you think I will be fine or should I reschedule my wisdom tooth extraction.
Thank you.
you are fine!!!!!!
Last question was about 3/15. Did 1st Covid Pfyzer. 2 days later pain in upper 6/7 teeth.
Work still in progress. Root canal on 6. Had temp. # 7 crown chipped off in back. Noble metal exposed. Clindamycin 15 days. Cause other painful problems in mouth and facial skin. Off med, finally feeling decent. Waiting to 4/14 for # 7 root canal and 4th recrowning on it! Extraction sounds good to me!
2nd Covid Pfizer 4/2 Friday noon. By evening those two teeth went into pain all over again.
Doing what I can for relief until I get dentists or endodontist Monday.
Don’t believe 2nd time tooth pain (same area)with Covid vaccine is coincidental! It seems to attack (my) weakest points.
Including arthritic knees. 1st time one knee locked up few days after vaccine. Went to Orthopedic for knee shots.
Still debating if conincidental … or, if this should be reported to Covid manufacturers as another side effect…
As always Dr. Amin, your expert opinion is appreciated. My dentists don’t want to get involved with this Covid and teeth/ gum issues.
Sorry you are having trouble. Intermittent pain that comes and goes is a hallmark of a bad tooth. Although the timing matches, I believe these are coincidental findings. I huge percentage of my patients have been vaccinated and I have yet to see an link.
I have a very loose tooth, i am thinking the dentist will extract. I have a dental appointment for Monday 5th and just got confirmed for vaccine on Tuesday 6th. Since I am not sure what procedure I will try at Dentist should I reschedule dental appointment?
Just go in for an evaluation on the fifth. You do not have to do treatment on the fifth. Keep your vaccine appointment!
I am very Loose tooth can also be extracted that same day and not affect the vaccine process at all
Hello Dr. Amin-
Thank you for your service in answering these questions. My 18 year old daughter had the J&J vaccine on April 8th. She will have four wisdom teeth removed on April 20th. She is also on birth control. The oral surgeon said it was ok to have the surgery. My question is: How are the blood clots issues happening with J&J related to the blood clots that form after having wisdom teeth removed.. I am worried that the surgery is so close to the brain. My daughter is adamant about getting them out now so she can recover during school vacation week.
Thank you!
The blood clots don’t have anything to do with the distance to the brain. Most blood clots start in the legs!
I would go ahead with the surgery 😊
Hi Dr Amin,
I have two wisdom teeth extraction on the morning of 8th April and I am planning to take anesthesia via IV. I have the second shot of pfizer vaccine on the evening of 9th April.
Is it safe for me to go through the dental procedure or should I postpone it? Please help me make a decision.
Vaccine should be first in your scenario
Hi Dr.Amin,
My dad got vaccinated with Covishield first dose on March 26th. He had fixed dental appointment for tooth removal on 8th April. Is it safe to go with the procedure post vaccine?
Appreciate your reply.
Regards,
Charan
That will be no problem 😌
Hi there! I currently have a tooth infection, my cheek is swollen pretty bad and I just started the antibiotics 2 days ago.. Is it ok to get the vaccine this Friday or do you think I should wait until the infection is gone? Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to answer questions 😊
Antibiotics do not interfere with the vaccine. They only kill bacteria not viruses 🦠
I would take the vaccine as soon as you can. The vaccine is the beginning of the end of this pandemic. Just try to avoid ibuprofen before the COVID-19 vaccination 💉
Hi…I have taken acetaminophen and ibuprofen this weekend for tooth pain and infection and need to see dentist. But am scheduled for 2nd Phizer shot at 1 pm tomorrow. So I took a little less than 24 hours before shot. Also take tramadol regularly. Any advice?
STOP acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Tramadol works differently
Hi. My dad has second visit for root canal tomorrow morning. He also has the Pfizer first dose tomorrow afternoon. If anesthesia is used, will that be ok?
no problem
Thanks
On April 1nd I am getting 2 dental implants as part of a full mouth restoration. On April 3rd I am getting my 1st Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination.
Since I cannot take Aspirin, Tyenol, and Ibuprofen for various reasons, my dental surgeon is giving me oxycodone for pain. I have had oxycodone for pain in the past for dental extractions & surgery.
Is it ok to be taking oxycodone the day before I recieve my 1st Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination???
I also think the oxycodone would help relive some of the side effects from the vaccine.
Oxycodone for pain will not affect the vaccine. Are you being IV sedated as well ?
Hello Dr., I am scheduled for gum surgery (gingival flap) on Mar 26 and my second Moderna vaccine is scheduled for April 1. My periodontist prescribed Alithromycin and motrin after the procedure. Should I wait to have the gum surgery or is this enough time between surgery and the Covid vaccination?
Yes — just stop the Motrin a day prior. How did the surgery go?
Surgery went great, thanks for asking and thanks for the heads up on stopping the Motrin meds prior to the vaccine.
I have a compromised immune disorder and am scheduled for major dental work on the 16th of April, bone graphs and implants. My second vaccine shot is scheduled for the 12th of April should I reschedule my dental appointment. Thank you.
4 days is enough time! You will do great!
Hello, I’m scheduled to have 6 teeth removed for dentures on April 16th I need to start taking amoxicillin 3 times a day until gone 28 pills up to the surgery I have to take 1 pill the morning of surgery dexamethasone 4 mg and 1 pill after. Then I have for pain ibuprofen 800 mg for pain and acetaminophen codeine plus chlorhexidine you donate twice a day for rinsing then my appt for my vivid shot is April 18th should I still get the 2nd vivid shot
It’s the dexamethasone/ ibuprofen that ‘may’ affect your immune response to the vaccine. The Timing is a bit close.
Dr. Amid,
I truly appreciate the response. I decided to move forward with the Alloderm graft and am happy to report I did not experience any pain. I had my first Covid vaccine at 9am and the surgery took place at 1pm. The only medication I took an hour prior to my surgery was the amoxicillin. Upon my arrival to the periodontist office I was given one medication and was told it would not hinder the Covid vaccine as well as numbing gel and novocaine. Thankful I did not have to take any other pain medication following the procedure.
Once again thank you for the response and your time.
Be well and safe!
Vanessa
Excellent! So happy for you! ❤
Hi Dr.Amin,
My dad got vaccinated with covishield first dose on 26th April. He had fixed dental appointment for tooth removal on 8th May. is it safe to proceed with dental procedure post vaccine?
Appreciate your reply.
Regards,
Charan
I’ve had a tooth extraction on March 23rd and am taking Motrin 250mg since yesterday. I haven’t started taking antibiotics yet because I am not sure if I can.
I have second shot of Pfizer Covid vaccine scheduled tomorrow March 25th. Should I reschedule my vaccine shot or I am good to go?
Stop Motrin 250mg but ok to be on the antibiotics
bone graft surgery on 3/18 last week…second dose of Pfizer scheduled for today, 3/24 at 11:00. someone told me not to get the shot…is it ok to get the second shot 6 days after bone graft gum surgery?
Yes! I hope you got the covid vaccine!
thank you I did~appreciate your Q&A….might have to come see you..
I have had an appointment for this Saturday to get a very long awaited dental implant (part 1) for over a month now, but was able to make an appt yesterday for my first dose of the Covid vaccine Saturday afternoon. My dental procedure is 9AM and my covid vaccine appt at 1:45. Is this safe or should I reschedule the implant? I’m nervous and don’t know what the right decision is but I want to get my vaccine.
Ideally you want to avoid steroids and NSAID types of medications BEFORE the vaccine. Tough decision!
Thank you for all these answers, I think I know my answer but wanted to be sure.
Having a filling w/Novacaine on 3/30. 1st dose of COVID-19 vaccine on 4/1.
Should be fine, avoid ibuprofin/acetomeniphen/aspirin before vaccine.
Perfect 🤩
Hey! I got my second Pfizer shot today and have a root canal tomorrow. Should I reschedule? Should I worry about the anesthesia? When can I take Ibuprofen again?
you are good to go! Even ibuprofen is ok!
Hi,
I had my second Pfizer vaccine yesterday. I need to have a wisdom tooth removed ASAP. Can I have it done today?
YES!
Hi Dr. Amin! Yesterday morning (03/20) I had 6 extractions with bone grafts. I got a call this morning that my first vaccine is scheduled for Tuesday 3/23. Am I safe to proceed? I’m only on ibuprofen 800 and Clindamycin.
Can you come off the ibuprofen 800?
Hello Dr. Amin. I have an abscess tooth root canal last week. I started Clindamycin and 800 mg ibuprofen on Sunday March 28th. I have the first COVID vaccine scheduled for 3/31. Should I wait until the infection heals to get the vaccine, and how long should I stop the ibuprofen before the vaccine? Thank you kindly.
I would have stopped at least a day before. Sorry I did not get to you on time. Many comments to answer
Hello! I got my bottom wisdom teeth out on Thursday 3/18, it wasn’t surgical it was just a tooth extraction. I was able to get the first dose of my covid vaccine scheduled on Tuesday 3/23. Is it okay to get the vaccine if I just got my wisdom teeth out? Also, I’m taking ibuprofen, methylprednisolone, and azithromycin. How long before I get my first vaccine shot should I stop taking any of these medications so I can ensure my immune system won’t be weakened? 24 hours, 48 hours before the shot? Thank you so much!!
ibuprofen, methylprednisolone are excellent for dental surgery such as dental implants or wisdom teeth but they do temporarily affect the immune system.
If anything maybe try to discontinue 48 hours prior.
Partner is doing a deep cleaning on two quadrants due to a gum infection at 4pm. Next day at noon will be the 1st dose vaccine. He is just concerned of not being able to take OTC after deep clean and before vaccine. Thoughts?
It is a concern for sure. Maybe he won’t need pain meds? 🙏
My father(age 57) had covid vaccine 1st shot(AstraZeneca) on march 18,2021. He have dental appointment( root canal treatment ) on march 26,2021. It is safe or have to reschedule
Safe! 😀
Hello Doctor, I got my 1dose of COVID shield vaccine on the 19 March. So can I go for root extraction which has infection on the 30 March
Timing is great!
Hi Dr. Amin,
I took my Pfizer 1st dose on 13th April and I have been scheduled for root canal on 18th April. Is the date for dental treatment is ideal after taking the first dose. I am little worried about the pain killer which will be given during dental treatment will affect my health because of covid vaccine.
Please advise
Hi Dr. Amin,
I had all four wisdom teeth pulled (2 of which were impacted) on Thursday March 18th and was able to schedule a first shot of the vaccine for tomorrow (March 20th) at 4pm. I am on antibiotic and oxycodone when needed and still have a lot of swelling. Would it be safe to get the vaccine? Thank you, Libby
What are you taking for pain after the dental surgery? Just Oxy?
oxy and advil. I am also on an antibiotic as well as my daily Effexor (SNRI)
OTC pain relievers, such as Ibuprofen and Tylenol, might weaken your immune system’s response to Pfizer or Moderna. It’s best to avoid them before you get your shot. But once you’ve received the vaccine, it is ok to take and PTC pain pill. The point is to avoid them before the surgery.
Hi–(not sure if this posted so rewriting) I’m taking Oxy (5mg every 4 hours or more) and Advil. I am also on effexor (SNRI).
Thank you!

I just had two bottom teeth pulled on 3/16 because of a bad root canal and a broken tooth. I also had an abscess under the broken tooth. I am scheduled to have the P. Covid vaccine on 3/19 (today). Will this be ok or should I wait until the infection in my tooth is gone.
It is fine!
Hi. I had two root canals done in the past 4 weeks. Now another tooth is bothering me. And has decay. I can’t see my dentist until Sunday. I’m going for my first covid shot tomororw at 3pm He is putting me on antibiotics today and I have been taking Advil.he isn’t sure if I have an infection but putting me on antibiotics ASAP just in case since I’m in a lot of pain
Is it safe to atill take vaccine tomororw
Can I still take vaccine

I still think you are ok! Take it especially that it is your first dose!
I have had covid vaccine on 25th march 2021. My half broken tooth needs to be extracted. So should i go ahead with it. If yes will antibiotics affect the efficacy of my vaccinated ist dose?
Antibiotics WILL NOT affect the efficacy of my vaccinated ist dose. Go ahead!
my son had his first covid 19 vaccine he goes in a few days to get his second but his gums are infected from gum surgery should he get his second shot?my son is in his 34,thank you
Yes 👍🏻
I am a 72 year old woman with mild Liver Cirrohsis. I am having first Covid vaccine on Sunday March 21 . Then have a crown and filing appt. on March 23.
Is this too soon? I am a very slow healer. I could delay dental as not emergency appt. thank you Dr. Amin.
This will be fine!
Hey
Hope you’re doing well (:
My brother got the Moderna Vaccine he is scheduled to get 2 of his Wisom teeth out on April 7th which is 21 days from now. Do you think he should reschedule his appointment
I think he is fine!
Hello! So glad this forum is open and thank you for your responses. I’m scheduled to get my COVID-19 vaccine (Moderna/Pfizer) at 9am on the same day as my wisdom teeth removal at 1pm on 3/20. Is it safe?
Just try to avoid ibuprofen for the first 24 hours
I am having a gum graft procedure on March 19th and scheduled for the 2nd dose of the Phizer Covid Vaccine. Will this be an issue?
The vaccine is schedule for the next day March 20th.
Hi. My dad is having second visit of root canal tomorrow morning. His scheduled for Pfizer first dose tomorrow. Is that ok if anesthesia will be used?
No
I have a periodontal abscess that cannot be treated and will have my molar removed. The abscess does not bother me in spite of the infection. Is it safe to receive the vaccine before having the molar removed?
Yes
I have a very bad gum infection.Waiting to get into dentist. He said do not take the vaccine until the teeth are pulled and infection is cleared.Do you agree
No. This is nonsense. If you can get the vaccine, take it!!
I am getting first shot of covid vaccine on 03/18 and I have a appointment to get cavities filed in tooth on 03/19. Is there any concern with this?
That’s fine
Hi
I had a root canal done on 16th March and have a second dose of AstraZenca tomorrow.
Will it have any effect, given that my tooth is recovering from an infection?
Thanks
No. You are fine 😇
Thank you for this thread!!! I’m 31 and I have a root canal appointment on 3/25 at 10 am and my second shot of Pfizer at 1 pm. Will I be ok? Thanks
Yes. Just avoid Advil before the shot
Hi I have an appointment scheduled for an extraction of a broken wisdom tooth for March 19 at 10am but I also have my Covid vaccine appointment scheduled the same day at 5pm. Is it safe to have it done the same day or should I reschedule the extraction.
Hmm. How will you avoid pain meds?
I am receiving 3 crowns on Thursday March 25 and 2nd COVID vaccine on Sunday March 28. Hopefully won’t need a root canal. Am I good to go either way for my vaccine?
Yes
I’m 19 years old and just got my 4 year wisdom teeth removed less than two days ago and I’m scheduled to get my first shot of the covid vaccine on the 23rd of March. Would I be fine to take it or do I have to wait awhile?
No need to wait. Just do not take ibuprofen prior to the vaccine.
I am getting full upper permanent dentures. On Monday the 22nd, I’m having all of my upper teeth extracted and 6 implants placed. The next day, March 23, I’m receiving the 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine. My dentist told me that it won’t be a problem having the vaccine the day after the procedure. Do you have any information that shows that there could be problems with this?
This depends on what type of full arch dental implant replacement surgery you are having done and the method. In my practice my patients virtually have no pain. Part of the reason is they are given intravenous steroids and Advil-like medications. These will both slow down your immune response to your second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. I do not think there is a way to avoid any pain medication before your second dose. If it were me I would try to rearrange 1 of these appointments.
Thank you for the advice. I’ll speak with my dentist tomorrow. I know he plans on giving me Motrin to take for pain. Since that will slow down my immune response to the vaccine, I will reschedule my appointment.
Female, 56, 2nd Pfizer shot received on March 12, dental implant surgery scheduled for March 25, steroids expected to be administered after. Should I go or should I postpone? Fast reply appreciated, my surgeon is pressing me to decide.
I got the 2nd dose of Pfizer vaccine on March 12 and I have dental implant surgery scheduled for March 25. Will it be ok concerning the steroids I might get or should I postpone the surgery?
I would appreciate quick reply, million times thanks!
Your order and spacing is great! 👍🏻👍🏻
no need to postpone the surgery! 😊
I am 64 years old. I am scheduled for 2nd Pfizer Thursday and full lower implants on Friday. Should I delay implants and if so how many days should I wait?
Due to your age your response to the vaccine should be mild. You are probably ok as is
Hi Dr. Amin, you probably won’t see this in time but I just had my first dose of Pfizer shot yesterday 03/15/21 morning at 11am. Today I have mild symptoms, tiredness and sore arm. Tomorrow morning 03/17/21 I have a dental appointment for the follow up of my implant. It’s been healing since January and is all healed up now they are going to cut my gum to get ready for the tooth piece. I’m not sure of the correct terminology but they are going to definitely make a new opening. But is everything going to be okay? I’m 26 years old by the way.
No issues
How did it go?
I am 80 years old. Took my 1st Moderna on 2/26. Having molar extraction on 3/17 and my second dose on 3/26. Took amoxicillin before extraction. Should I have any concerns?
none!
I have an appointment for root canal extraction of molar tooth on 03/27 and I have Covid vaccine appointment on 03/20 ist dose and 04/10 second dose. Is it safe to get the vaccine before the tooth
extraction.
I appreciate your help.
100% safe to do in this order and still get effective immune response
Hi. I had two root canals done in the past 4 weeks. Now another tooth is bothering me. And has decay. I can’t see my debris until Sunday. I’m going for my first covid shot tomororw at 3am. He is putting me on antibiotics and I have been taking Advil.
Can I still take vaccine
Yes —just try not to take the advil before the vaccine!
Hello. I am scheduled for a second root canal to a front tooth due to a possible abscess on 3/30. I also have my second moderna vaccine scheduled for 4/3. Is there any concern with this timing? I appreciate you answering these questions. I haven’t been able to get through to my local health department to ask.
no issue here 😉
Thanks for adviced !
I have slight gum infection and inflammation of muscle around it due to wisdom tooth pushing itself against the cheek. Can I get vaccinated while I have gum infection?
yes!
Hi
Just had an extraction and bone graph done on 3/12. Currently on amoxicillin and have 1st dose of vaccine scheduled for 3/18. Should I postpone my vaccine?
No-keep the vaccine schedule just as it is. The extraction and bone graft will not affect it. Try not to take Advil the day before the vaccine
Hi I got a toothache and got my second vacine covid-19 today 11 am is it safe if I take the vacine ? Or I rebooked ? Thanks
Safe!
So glad I found this site!
Age 81, Fibromyalgia. Otherwise all good.
Got 1st Pfizer shot on March 10.
March 13, am 15 year old crowned tooth painful.
Pain generating up to side of nose where now a fluid (painful lump) settled….
No problems with teeth before vaccine.
Recent full mouth X-rays in October 2020.
Is this vaccine related???
Called several dentists. Got appointment March 17. How can I self help meantime???
Thanks ever so much!
Not related. Coincidence. Just take some Tylenol in the meantime 😇
I’ve just had my tooth took out today is it Ok to have my covid vaccine done tomorrow
I had a slight toothache when I got the J & J Vaccine. The next day there was swelling and more soreness around the tooth. Would an infection alter the effectiveness of the vaccine? Can I take antibiotics after the vaccine?
Would an infection alter the effectiveness of the vaccine? NO
Can I take antibiotics after the vaccine? Yes 🙌
I have swelling around one of my teeth, looks red and infected. I’m scheduled for my first Moderna vaccine in 3 days, should I get it?
Yes 👍🏻
I had Moderena 2nd one on 3/13 3:24pm
On 3/14 I had 38c temperature and Body ache. I took Advil 500mg twice a day, then I am better today 3/15 in the morning. I have root canal appointment on 3/17 9 AM .Should I reschedule? Please let me know, Thank you!
How did it go?
Female, age 43, receiving 2nd Moderna dose on 4/14 @ 6pm (provider scheduled for 5 weeks out, not 4), realized I have a regular dental appointment the next day 4/15 in the afternoon. Very sore arm for about 48 hours after 1st does, but otherwise no side effects. Should I be concerned about not feeling well enough for the dental appointment.
What is a “regular dental appointment?” If that means cleaning then all is good 😀
Hi
I don’t know if you will be able to reply to me in time but i am from the UK. I am due to have a tooth filling at 11.30am british time later today and my Astra Zeneca Covid vaccine at 3.15pm, so I will be having local aniesthesia for one tooth. Is this ok? could it cause the covid jab to be less effective?
Fast reply 😉 no issues- just don’t take advil before
Hi my father (73 years) has his dental treatment 2 weeks ago- root canal and filling on some gap tooth. In the mean time he got vaccine AstraZeneca (Covashield) 1 st dose . When can he go for his next dental treatment (root canal on other tooth and filling). Should he avoid getting anesthesia?
Anesthesia is fine. Just trying to avoid a major dental (implant) procedure right before the vaccine
I’m getting my 2nd dose of the COVID vaccine on the 17th of this month and having my dental implants done on the 24th. Will this be OK?
Yes — you have several days which is great!
Thanks!
I had a root extraction Friday March 12th. Still taking antibiotics. Scheduled for my first Covid vaccine tomorrow, March 15th. Still taking antibiotics. Am I good to go?
good to go!
Hi Dr.Ramsey,
I’ve got a swollen lymph node by the neck area where I believe I have a tooth cavity/infection. I’m due for my second Pvaccine on April 1st. Would It be ok to get the vaccine ? I rescheduled my dentist appt for April 6th.
Thanks!
Yes 👍🏻 The vaccine is more important.
I had my first dose of Moderna vaccine yesterday and today I woke up with slight tenderness in my implanted tooth. I have no idea if this is related at all, but thought it was odd since I’ve had the implant for a few years.
That is VERY odd for a single implant to do that. Keep nme posted!
On antibiotic tii Tues morning for tooth infection. Can i still get my 2nd covid shot Wednesday 24th afternoon.
Today I have had pain where I have my bridge. It hurts if I try to eat and it is painful off and on when I eat or drink something cold. Since this is a Sunday I will call my dentist Monday to see if he can get me in to determine what is wrong. I have my second dose of the Moderna vaccine on Thursday. Can I have any kind of dental procedures done before Thursday? Can I take Aleve for the pain? If it is either the dental procedure or the vaccine, I will take the vaccine. Any suggestions that may help me please?
Take the second dose of the Moderna vaccine on Thursday!!!!!
Had my tooth pulled Fri and getting my first shot Mon 15. Is that ok
Hi – I had a root canal on Thursday 3/11 and was prescribed Amox for 7 days. I also took 600mg of ibuprofren 1x after my procedure and 2xs on Friday. I took 400mg today (Saturday) at 12pm. I have my 2nd COVID vaccine appointment tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. Am I okay to recieve the vaccine after having a root canal and being on antibiotics. How long do I have to wait after taking ibuprofren? Thanks
Ok to take vaccine.
Take Ibuprofen AFTER but not before if needed
Hi Dr. Amin. Gone through some of your replies. But I just wanted to make sure.
My upper tooth (incisor) and lower tooth (first molar) hurts (because both were already damaged) and I wanted them extracted. I’ve been managing pain for the last two days with Tylenol. However, I have a scheduled 2nd dose with Pfizer on March 19th.
1. When should I stop taking Tylenol before my vaccination?
2. Would it be alright to have my tooth extracted, say on March 16th?
3. Would it be better to have my tooth extracted on the 20th or 21st or should it be a later date after the 19th?
I am 33 yrs old, no health issues, and would really appreciate your insights. Thank you.
Sorry missed this one –Did you get the vaccine yet?
Hello, Dr. Amin,
I’m scheduled to have four of my wisdom teeth extracted on a Thursday morning and my second dose COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer) on Friday morning. I am in my early 30’s. Do I need to reschedule one of those appointments? COVID-19 vaccines are challenging to schedule in my area, so I’m trying to avoid doing so if possible. Thank you so much!
Reschedule the extractions.
HI, I am getting my wisdom teeth removed on March 16, and I have an appointment for my first dose of the vaccine on March 17, should I reschedule one of these? I am 18 years old
Because you will be on ibuprofen and possibly a steroid as well given intravenously (IV Sedation) I would suggest you delay wisdom teeth extractions. You want your body to get an excellent immune response to the vaccine. The ibuprofen and the steroid could inhibit that.
What if the reverse is true – getting 1st Pfizer dose on 3/22 or 3/23 and then having 3 teeth pulled with quad gum treatment and grafting on 3/26. Will take sedation pills and antibiotics prior to 26th. Am I ok to proceed with dental work?
Perfect order!
Hello Dr.
I am scheduled to have 1 wisdom tooth removed today. I also have an appointment to receive the first dose of the COVID vaccine this Sunday, would this be okay?
How will you manage pain afterwards if you should not take ibuprofen?
After my second shot of Pfizer, 4 days ago, I had a lot of pain on my arm and also my lymph nodes under my amprit got very swollen, a day after my second vaccine I started having severe tooth pain, not even sure which one is hurting. I thought it was my jaw initially, but I am not sure anymore, I am seeing my dentist in 2 days, but can this be related?
Coincidental most likely
Found this forum because I am also having severe toothache/pain. Had my second dose of Pfizer yesterday at 2pm. Left ride of my teeth, top and bottom are super painful. Also, slight inner ear pain. I’m taking Tylenol but it’s not even touching the pain.
Oh gosh 😩 the dental pain is likely coincidental rather than the cause. Just bad timing ⏱
See your dentist and let us know what was the problem. I would appreciate the follow up.
Hello Dr. Amin,
I’ve just read through a fair amount of these questions about the Covid Vax and getting dental procedures.
What struck me is that there are quite a few people talking about dental pain/problems after the vax and your response to them was that it was coincidence.
Perhaps you would find it helpful to do more research on what side effects people are experiencing. Note, however, it is difficult to find these reports on main stream media sources.
Thank you for a wonderful website!
I HAVE REPORTED IT! For sure! But so far there is still no relation being reported. I have personally seen at least 1000 vaccinated patients and have not seen a case where there was not a dental reason for the pain.
I am just relaying the truth as that is my obligation as a doctor.
I really appreciate your comment!
I am taking antibiotics and pain reliever for two days due to my toothache. Then I am schedule for extraction today and in the afternoon is my schedule for my 1st dose of sinopharm. Should I stop my medication and get postponed my tooth extraction?
Not the best order
BBIBP-CorV, also known as the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, is one of two inactivated virus COVID-19 vaccines developed by Sinopharm.
I am scheduled for a dental implant #3 tooth, with sinus lift and bone graft on Thursday, March 18th . I am supposed to take antihistamines and antibiotics leading up to surgery and prescription strength Naproxen after. My 2nd Covid vaccine is Friday, March 26th. Do you think this scheduling should be OK? Thanks!
The timing seems ok since you will be mostly healed
Im scheduled for 1st cov dose on 3/16 tooth filling on 3/18. 72yrs old should I reschedule dental appt
nope –you are fine!
I have an appointment to get a filling or maybe a root canal on 3/15 and I am scheduled to get my first shot on 3/16. I’m 58 years old.
Is this a problem? Should I reschedule the dental appointment?
I do not suspect this will be a problem. Just avoid taking any ibuprofen before the vaccine so that your body can generate a good response
Thank you foy the response I will proceed the shot n tooth filling
On antibiotic tii Tues morning for tooth infection. Can i still get my 2nd covid shot Wednesday 24th afternoon.
yes
I had my secomd shot of the vaccine on 3/10/21 and scheduled to have my teeth (upper and lower) removed on 3/12/21. Is it safe to have that dental procedure or should I reschedule for at keast 7 day?
Too major of a procedure that close to the second dose! Consider full mouth implants done on the same day as the extractions! Same day teeth!
I am having my 1st covid vaccine on 18th March, is it OK to have two extraction the next day, thks in advance 😀
As long as you do not have much of a reaction this will be fine since it is only first dose and you are having treatment after rather than before
Dr. Amin,
I am receiving my first dose of Moderna vaccine on 3/23 at 9:00am then same day at 12pm I am scheduled to have an Alloderm graft surgery on two of my upper right gum/teeth. Should I reschedule the Alloderm graft or will this be ok? I’m a little nervous!
Thank you!
The problem is managing pain. I’m sorry I did not get to you with such short notice by March 23. What did you decide to do? I had the Moderna vaccine as well.
The issue is that AlloDerm does cause significant pain so you’d end up having to take some ibuprofen. I myself try to avoid the ibuprofen both before and after. The first dose is really nothing so I’m sure you will be fine either way
Hello Dr Amin,
Cracked molar. No pain. Root canal on march 17. Core buildup/crown march 31. shot 2 possibly april 1. Will that work or shpuld I delay shot 2? Thank you.
no issues 😉
Hello! I’m from Bulgaria and I don’t have any substantial answers to whether I can get Moderna or Pfizer vaccine while the following ‘problem’ :
A lympf vassel on my neck appeared and a Doctor said it must be from few pimples near that I have extracted. I was prescribed biprofenid 150mg 2xper day for 10 days (ketoprofen). To be safe I made a panoramic photo of my teeth and got a dentist to look into it. He said the vessel can be from a bottom tooth with a crown. He said it must be opened, shift removed, roots cleaned and a new crowned placed. Few doctors told me its not safe to have the vaccine. That I have to be fully healthy to get it. Could you offer some inside and advice? Thank you!
You are not being given good information. Get the vaccine!
Hi Dr. Amin. I received my second dose of the Covid vaccine on February 28th. I’m scheduled for a possible back upper molar tooth extraction on March 15th, 2 weeks after the vaccine. Is the timing favorable? I take two tablets of Excedrin daily for migraines and arthritis. How many days should I discontinue Excedrin before my appointment. Is it ok to take Tylenol with caffeine instead?
The timing favorable. No changes to your routine
I’m getting my 2nd Pfizer vaccine dose at 9:30am. Can I get fillings at the dentist that same day at 2pm or should I reschedule?
I would reschedule if it were me.
That was fast, thank you!
Hello, Dr. Amin, I had two teeth extraction on 03/03, 7 days ago. it was bleeding first day, stiches doctor removed in five days. I was on Amocsicillin five days. Can I have my first dose of vaccine tomorrow with this situation, 8 days ago after extraction? Thank you so much. I am 67 years old.
yes
Thank you so much, doctor.
I have had a toothache since Friday March 5, 2021. It originally started after drinking a sugary drink. Now two teeth hurt at same time above each other, crazy. I had my first COVID vaccine Monday, March 8, 2021 in the morning, saw dentist that afternoon. Dentist took X-rays and couldn’t see anything problematic. He scheduled me for cleaning next week, March 17. He said I might need antibiotic in pocket at gum line. Will lt be ok to receive antibiotics or pain meds?
yes to all
I am due for my 2nd covid vaccine today at 2:00, but I have to have a filling replaced at my dentist at 3:00 the same day. Is this ok?
Yes ….symptoms start later in the day anyway.
Couple of questions:
1. I’m getting my first dose 3/15 9 a.m. and then a dental cleaning at 12pm. Is this okay?
2. I have my 2nd dose 4/12 and wisdom teeth extraction 4/19. Should I delay the 2nd dose until I am healed or go ahead to do it before surgery?
Thank you!
I think your timing is great!
Scheduled to get covid vacine on March 20 it March16 today have a
Infection in my implant can I still get my vacine
Yes for sure. Hopefully you don’t have a failing dental implant! 😒
Hi, I would receive my first dose of Moderna vaccine 48 hours before removal of all four wisdom teeth under general anaesthetic. Would that be okay?
yes –the timing is good. Its best to have surgery after the vaccine rather than to close before
I am getting a root canal on Monday morning and scheduled for my 2nd Moderna vaccine on Tuesday afternoon. Should I be ok?
2nd dose can be unpredictable for sure. Some friends were very ill for 2-3 days after dose 2 and fine for dose 1
I am scheduled to get the 1st dose of the Covid vaccine on Wednesday. Is it ok for me to have a tooth pulled and bone graph ( oral surgery w/IV sedation) on Friday (2 days later)?
Yes –2 days after the first dose is fine!
I’m getting my wisdom tooth pull out tomorrow and I’m on the waiting list for the Vacine , will it be okay to book an appointment for the shot days away if I get it ? Or how long should I wait for the first shot
Hello Dr. Ramsey,
I’m having some cavities filled on Tuesday and I am getting the Covid vaccine on Wednesday. Would that be ok? Should I cancel my dentist appointment? Thanks
If first dose I am sure you will be fine!!!!!
Hello — I am on antibiotics for an infection under a root canal, and I may have to have the tooth extracted this week if the pain gets worse. If I have the tooth extracted this Weds. afternoon, can I still safely have my second dose of Moderna vaccine two days later, on Friday afternoon? It is very hard to get vaccine appointments here. I am 67 years old and in fairly good health, just some borderline hypertension. Thanks.
Yes –but if you get a fever I would delay
Hello — For how long before second dose of Covid vaccine should one avoid ibuprofen? And what is the reason? I have never read that anywhere. That could make it a problem to have any major dental surgery right before the vaccine. Or is it ok to take some other kind of pain reliever? Thank you!
https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20210218/take-a-painkiller-before-your-covid-vaccine
Hello mr Amin, I am due to have two teeth extracted on the 18 th march , and my first vaccine on 19th march due you think I should re book my vaccine .
Yes because you will likely need pain relievers that can affect the vaccine 💉 best response
I’ve had my tooth took out today would it be OK to have my first covid vaccine tomorrow
yes
Had 2nd Moderna shot 11:00 am 3/10
Have a dental cleaning on 3/12 at 11
Take 4 500mg of amoxicillin before any dental work. Will this have any effect on the COVID shot?
nope..all good
HI,
Hi I want to get a cleaning after almost 1 year and I now have an infection where I had a root canal almost 30 years ago. The dentist prescribed antibiotics. Today is Friday and finally got a call back for first does for Monday morning. Can I still get the first dose vaccine on Monday and later take antibiotics?
yes!
Hello,
I will be getting a novocaine shot at the dentist and 3 hours later the 2nd dose of Covid19 vaccination; is it ok?
Yes
Thank you for time and replying
Hello Doc,I had wisdom tooth extracted yesterday saturday. 3/6/21.am taking antibiotics. But have second vaccine tomorrow tusday.is ok,to take my vaccine. Or should I stop my antibiotics.?
I had Covid in Dec. 29 , but didn’t get sick or fever just tested posture my husband and I . How many months do we have to wait to get our vaccine ? And also I just had surgery upper teeth all taken out to be replaced with implants . Should I wait till completely healed or what ? My husband no surgery just tested for covid but no fever or nothing .
You don’t have to wait. But I would not do it near a major surgical procedure!
Is it ok to get the covid-19 vaccine shot while you have a toothache or infection?
Yes — it is ok. Just avoid NSAIDs like advil before the vaccine
So i took Tylenol because my tooth bothering me my 2nd covid19 vaccine is Wendsday at 9am is that ok?
Tylenol wil be worn off before your vaccine so all is good. I would not take anymore though. Ibuprofen is really the main one though.
Thanks Mr. Amin i really appreciate your response and your service God Bless.
Is it safe to get first part of my implant installed at 8am, then get my COVID vaccine at 10:15 the same day? It would be my first dose. Thank you
Yes –but avoid any ibuprofen before the vaccine which will make the dental implant much more painful.
Is it ok to get dental filling after reacting to 1st shot covid vaccine, (mild swollen lip & tightness in throat) Happened 2 weeks ago
Given EP pen at site, dexamethasone, Benadryl & Pepsi’s at ER. Still take Benadryl as needed.
Wow! What a rare reaction! If you are in between vaccine doses it should be fine! Get ready to lose a couple days after the second shot though. Keep us posted!
My husband is schedule to receive his second vaccine in two days 03/09/21 but he is having some tooth pain I think he is has infection is only been one day with this pain we are trying to get an appointment with his dentist my question is can he still get the vaccine or he should reschedule it?
Thank you,
Am taking amoxicillin for gum infection can I take 2nd shot of vaccine?
yes –Is it for an implant infection?
I had a back top tooth pulled and a bone graph done on Feb 25th and I’m scheduled to get the covid vaccine on Tuesday March 9th. I’m still healing and have a couple stitches in is it too soon to get my first shot?
All good 😌
Hello, first of all, thank you for this post. I have been searching on the internet for days trying to find information but to no avail.
I am 29 and in generally good Health. I am scheduled to have 2 wisdom teeth removed on March 18, then 2 others on March 23. However, I will receive my second dose of COVID vaccine on March 25.
Should I reschedule the second teeth removal? Or would that be also ok? Because I read that with the Flu vaccine it’s no Problem, but I don’t know if the same goes with this new vaccine.
Thank you so much in advance.
P.S. With the teeth removal I will only receive local anaesthesia, not a full body one.
How did the first set go?
From a dental perspective, I woould delay the second set of wisdom teeth for a month! Why the rush?
Hi Dr Amin,
I actually got all 4 out at the last minute… He asked me on the spot. And I was like, ok.
But now it’s nasty… one side is so much worse than the other. It is still abnormally swollen and so much pain… I guess because I had the impacted molar… I had fever and couldn’t really sleep these few days… I just hope he didn’t wreck the nerve or some other teeth as well…
I am going in for check up tomorrow, but I will see if I can get in today.
I am still hoping that it would get better by Wednesday, otherwise will have to reschedule the vaccination 🙁
IV sedation and magic like LPRF made from your blood would have made this a painless experience in my office! Sorry you had so much trouble!
Had first COVID vaccine shot on Friday, is it alright to pull tooth on Monday, or should I wait, thank you
Go ahead!
Hi there! I have an appointment to get my first vaccine tomorrow (3/11) morning at 11, and a scheduled appointment with the dentist at 1pm. I’m not sure what exactly is wrong with the tooth, it feels like a filling came out so I’m not sure if they will have to use Novocain. Will I be ok to go?
Thanks!
yes
Is it ok to get the covid-19 vaccine if i have a toothache/tooth infection?
Is it ok to get the covid-19 vaccine (pfizer? if i have have two implants today at 1:00pm and the vaccine apt is tomorrow at 2:30pm?
Yea but how will you manage pain meds?
My second vaccine is hours before having surgery to remove a broken post from a old implant that recently failed. I’m 72 with a depressed immune system. Should I consider delaying my oral surgery?
I would delay if I were you especially because of your age and immune system status. The second does is much more substantial
Hi, I got my lower left wisdom tooth extracted on the 2/25 – 10 days ago. I stopped having pain a few days ago but still have some swelling and can’t eat normally yet. Also see some saliva bubbles in the place of extraction. I’m getting my Covid vaccine (1st dose Pfizer) today 3/7. Will I be ok or should I hold off on the vaccine?
No problems
Dr. Amin,
I am 67 yes old.. Let me know if you need additional info.
Deborah
You should probably do OK. The older you are the less side effects you will have fun the vaccine. It sounds strange but this is true. Younger people have more of a overactive immune system giving them more symptoms afterwards.
I am getting two wisdom teeth extracted and am scheduled for the first covid vaccine the following week. They will be 6 days apart. Should I reschedule vaccine appointment or will I be good to receive the vaccine?
I think you will be just fine 😊
Hello, is it ok to get dental work (under anesthesia) before second dose of COVID vaccine or should I wait until after? My second dose is on March 20
Doing the dental work in between doses will be fine.
It is the second dose that has more effects.
I need a tooth pulled is it ok to have it pulled in the morning and 2nd COVID shot the same day is that ok
I would not do this on the second vaccine day.
I had my 2nd COVID vaccine on Wednesday March 3rd
I am experiencing severe pain from a broken molar that had a filling. I want to have it extracted. Is it safe to have novacaine for pain soon after COVID shot?
Yes 100% OK
Thanks for your reply. Will contact my dentist on Monday.
Hello! I am scheduled to get all 4 wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday March 17 under sedation. I have scheduled to get my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Monday March 22, should I be fine or should I move my dentist appointment?
Borderline depending on difficulty of your wisdom teeth.
I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted friday on 3/5. One of them was an impacted tooth. I have my first dose of the pfizer vaccine scheduled for Saturday 3/13. Would I be ok to get my first dose that day (8 days after extractions) and how many days before should I stop taking advil and the pain medication I was told to take for the pain.
you should already be off the advil by then I would hope!

Is it safe for me to go too my next Appointment on March 23rd for the Abatement. Please advise if you can!
Thank you!
Elaine Adams Smith
[email protected]
Having the abutment and crown it’s not a surgical procedure.
So it’s typically a very easy appointment.
Thank you so much Dr. Ramsey for the answer to my question to you about the abatement and crown on my implant tooth on March 23rd.
Getting 3 fillings and crown Monday. 2nd Covid shot on Tuesday. Safe to do or should I hold off a day or two for the second shot?
No issues
I had 11 extractions with full sedation 3/4 Thursday. Finished @ 2 PM is it safe to get a COVID vaccine 1 – first one tomorrow 3:6 Sat @ 2 PM? Thank you
I had dental surgery on Feb.26.Two extractions and 4 implants was placed. There was some bone shaving done as well.Am schedule to get the Covid vaccine on March 6 , is it safe?
I am going to have two molar extractions on Tuesday. Is it safe to do the extractions, fake bone put in, and a deep teeth cleaning all in the same day?
When would you recommend to get the covid vaccine after this dental procedure?
Thank you!
Take the vaccine as soon as your offered. The vaccine is the beginning of the end of this pandemic!
Especially the first dose has minimal side effects except for the sore shoulder!
Goos luck!
I had an infected implant and had surgery today had implant moved, new bone graft, membrane dr said I had a mean infection starting good thing I came in today. Tomorrow I am suppose to get my second vaccine do you think it will be safe?
Hi I started full dental implants with the extractions 1 week ago. I have an appointment to get the 1st Moderna vaccine this Monday 3/8/21, which will have been 10 days from extractions. Will I be safe to get the vaccine?
yes
I am scheduled to have a wisdom tooth and cyst beside it removed. I was told they would put me under using same medication for colonoscopy. I am scheduled to get my first Moderna shot two days after this procedure. Would this be safe or should I reschedule the dental procedure to at least 5 days after the vaccine?
Hi Dr,
I will be getting my second Pfizer vaccine shot on March 16. Two weeks later on March 30 , I will need a cleaning with 4 shots of novacaine (I have sensitive teeth.) plus I will be getting a bonding on
March 30. Will that be ok?
Thank you so much.
Sherry
no problem!
Is it safe to get second vaccine after root canal ? I have same day app for both . First I have my root canal about 9 am and then I have my vaccine app about 11 am .

Hi doctor . I have my second vaccine same day with my root canal . But first I have my root canal app about 9 am then I have my app for vaccine about 11 . Is it safe get vaccine after root canal ?
safe –yes 😉
I have been having toothache for over a month i think it is my wisdom teeth i can now get the covid vaccine I’m worried that the infection may cause issues with the vaccine and i could have a reaction?
Hi doctor.
I had schedule for all on 6 implant surgery next day of my second dose of Covid vaccine.
Should i for it or delay.
I will really appreciate your reply.
Thanks
Kamal
Sorry I missed this! I would say no! How did it go Kamal?
i will have second Covid shot on Monday. On Friday I am scheduled for dental surgery that will involve bone graft and an implant placement.
Should I be concerned about medications that I will be prescribed: Antibiotics and Steroids.
Are steroids absolutely required?
I would delay the implants
Hello Doctor!
I am scheduled for 2-nd Covid-19 vaccine on Monday and on Friday I am scheduled for debtal surgery to remove impacted root of an eye tooth (the tooth broke) and place an implant ( possible bone graft).
Is it safe to do the procedure on Friday?
I assume that steroids should notbe used after surgery
Thank you
I would avoid. That’s a big surgery. You need your immune system to be as strong as possible. Removing canines is a big tooth
Hello Dr, Is it ok to get dental crown 2 days after Covid vaccine. Already done with root canal 2 weeks prior to vaccine. Just crown implant after 48hrs of vaccine. Thanks
3/2/2021: i had my 2nd dose of moderna today.
i am scheduled for dental work/fillings tomorrow and will need novacaine (at least 2 shots).
will the novacaine interfere with or counteract the immune response of the covid vaccine?
is it best to wait and not have novacaine so soon after the covid vaccine?
Had tooth pulled today, getting covid shot tomorrow will that be ok
1st one or second?
Can you reply that you received my reply please?
I just had dental surgery on my top 12 teeth all 12 crown were removed, gums are pretty tore up and I have a one piece temporary also I suffer from Neuropathy and get a steroid injections in my spine, head, neck and ribcage, is it safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine with both of these procedures in the same week?
With the steroid I would delay things. Your immune system may over or under react to the surgery from the Covid Vaccine. The second shot especially!
Can you reply that you received my reply please?
If I have a 4 wisdom teeth needed for extraction need and the following week I get the COVID vaccine should I hold off on the tooth extraction or can I do both since it will be 5 days apart. First it would be my extraction the the vaccine 5 days later?
If it was closer than 5 days I would wait. But your scenario sounds good. Can you reply that you received my reply please?
RA
My 77 year old mom had a back molar pulled 5 days ago and still has pain and some swelling. She will eventually get an implant. She has an appointment for her 1st coronaviruses vaccine shot tomorrow. Is it ok to get that tomorrow or does she have to wait? Thanks!
Don’t wait.
Older patients have less reactions to the vaccine. It is counterintuitive but true
Good day to you Dr. Amin.
I would be having my dental appointment on the 6th of March , to a extract a broken tooth
I had my first dose of the Vaccine on January 26 th and scheduled for the second dose on the 17th of March.
my Wife has an appointment for the same day to address a swollen gum and to repair a couple of teeth.
She will be taking her first dose of the vaccine on the 3rd of March and dental appointment on the 6th.
Do you foresee any complications.
i read that we should not take any painkillers etc except Tylenol after the vaccine.
Would appreciate your kind advice
God bless
Sincerely
Robert
😊
thank you for this post!
Can I have upper and bottom 10 temporary veneers placed the same day I get my second covid vaccine? I had no symptoms after the first one.
The first dose is easy. The second has more effects. I would suggest you delay as you will likely have a fever 🤒
Does your advice also apply to getting a root canal on the same day as a covid vaccine? The vaccine would be sometime between 9am and 5pm and the root canal at 5pm.
Chance – I do not see a problem with that at all
Can I have a tooth extraction a few hours after my first dose of the covid vaccine?
Might I add my tooth needs to come out and it’s starting to throb
Hello Doc I just have wisdom tooth extracted 2 days, but I have a second dose covid vaccine tomorrow Tuesday, an iam taking antibiotics for my tooth. Is it ok to take a vaccine.without ang harm.
yes
I hadn’t thought about this and I’m glad you’ve addressed what is probably a common question. Thank you, Dr. Amin.
Hi Denise. Yes it has become an interesting question to say the least. We’re still learning more and more every day. So far, in my experience it has not been an issue.
I have even worked on patients that were Covid positive and did not know it!
What if you have diabetes and high blood pressure, are there any concerns?
Concerns about the vaccine 💉 or about implants in general?
I’m scheduled for oral surgery on March 26, to have a tooth extracted and have a bone graft. My second dose of the covid vaccine is scheduled for March 30. Will this create any problems?
How old are you Deborah?
I received my COVID vaccine J&J this week and I am having pocket reduction surgery 1 week later on two teeth, will this be ok or should I reschedule?
I am to receive a crown on one of my teeth in a couple of days. I received my 2nd COVID vaccine shot 7 days ago. Is it ok to go ahead and get my crown or should I wait?
Dr., I was just finally able to schedule a Covid vaccination . It will be a week before I am scheduled to have tooth # 11
(which broke off under crown ) extracted and going to have an implant process. I have heart diagnoses and on blood thinners. Would you postpone vaccine or extraction.? The extraction is scheduled 19 days after crown came off. Thank you!
I’m sorry I missed this comment. How did it go Barbara?
Thank you Dr. Amin! I received the vaccine two days ago and so far no problem other than sore arm. My extraction/ bone graft is this coming Tuesday so it will be 5 days after vaccine. I am very anxious due to being early 70’s, having high no, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Afib and 6 different medications and mostly fear having to go off Eliquis for 2 days while continuing to take 81 mg aspirin daily. Combined with unknowns about how the vaccine is going to affect everything I have almost cancelled appt. i suppose I am afraid of looking foolish by continuing to express fears to the doctor/ oral surgeon. That is what led me here because I googled what my concerns were!
Thank you for your time and I know I just need to deal with it maturely😇
Why come off the Eliquis? It is beyond rare for me to take someone off this for a single extraction.
Usually the benefit does not outweigh the risk.
Did your doctor approve of this?
Here’s an article I wrote on the topic sometime ago
https://burbankdentalimplants.com/blood-thinners-and-dental-implants/
The oral surgeon recommended staying on 81 mg aspirin but stopping Eliquis for 2 days. The nurse spoke to my cardiologist and said that was fine. I have to go off Eliquis starting tomorrow in order to have extraction Tuesday. I get put in a position that by questioning this I am telling them I know more than they do,
You must follow doctors orders. Some situations do call for removal. I like that you are staying on the low dose aspirin
How can I help?
I had COVID the day I had my implant done. Will it still work?
Did you get my first reply?
Hello Doctor Amin, I was doing a google search to see if anyone was having the same side affect that I am having 4 days post my second Moderna Covid -19 vaccination. My teeth are in constant pain when I drink almost anything for up to an hour. I have 4 dental caps from a procedure 15 years ago. On a very rare occasion (maybe once/year) they could be sensitive to very hot or very cold beverages. Since the 2nd vaccine I can’t even tolerate room temperature beverages. Any thoughts?
I have not heard of this. It could just be from the slight fever. How are you now?
I just had a slight toothache from cavity and gum swollen in the last few days. I planned to visit a dentist next week but my covid vaccines appointment is tomorrow. Should I get vaccinated first or after seeing dentist?
Get vaccinated first!
I have not heard of this. It could just be from the slight fever. How are you now?
Hello doc, I will be having my wisdom tooth removal tomorrow, and my 1st vaccine is scheduled only after 2 days of my surgery. So should I delay my surgery or take vaccine immediately after 2 days of surgery?
I am from India.
Considering you are in India 🇮🇳 where Covid it is really bad you should get the vaccine ASAPfor This is more important than anything else
Regarding a tooth looking long, isn’t that more due to the gum line being higher as a result of receding?
I’m not sure I understand what it means to put implant too deep or shallow? When I look at photo and see more tooth area it looks to me like it’s because there is less gum there.
It is the position in the bone that determines this.
This article talk about implant depth which is critical!
https://burbankdentalimplants.com/dental-implant-is-too-deep-tooth-looks-long/
