Dental Practices Face Hiring Shortages

According to a poll conducted by the American Dental Association (ADA) Health Policy Institute, 35.8% of dental practices are looking to hire dental assistants, 28.8% are searching for dental hygienists, 26.5% have open administrative positions, and 13.1% are in need of associate dentists. More than 80% of dentists surveyed noted that hiring was more difficult now than prior to COVID-19. The ADA suggests that this workforce shortage, particularly among dental assistants and dental hygienists, existed prior to the pandemic, however, the onset of COVID-19 has worsened the problem.
